Sorry for 'front bit', I don't know what it is called. Anyway, I am sure I am not the first to crack this flimsy bit of plastic. The question is, what to do about it? I have thought to reinforce it from underneath with a bit of plywood or similar, but it is not that easy...

You can see the crack in this picture: (click on it for bigger image, and you can then also admire my sandals and toes).

Usually with polycarbonate you drill a small hole at the end of the tear or crack, this stops it continuing to rip or tear. However as it is in such an obvious place it would be difficult to conceal, I might be tempted to have a small name plate made up, which would conceal it and by drilling a hole to attach the plate you could kill 2 birds with one stone, just a thought

price up a new fairing
, drill out the 4 pop rivets and refit with new rivets or captive bolt nuts
perhaps take the fairing to a plastic welder?

If you can get the shroud off then you can reinforce the back with some fibreglass matting and resin. Also previously mentioned put a small hole at each end to stop the crack running any further and a small blob of filler for the hole. That was how I repaired my Puck gas box.

been watching Wheeler dealers, on the series 8 dark blue bmw Mr c took off the front grill bumper/ fender to repair a crack
the repair was
sand the area to remove paint
a hole drilled at either end of crack then holes down either side looked like approx 6mm from crack this is to strengthen the repair. next was to make a v shape in the crack
a netting was covered in some bumper resin,(it apparently allows movement when sun shines on panel like the bumper material)the resin is fixed to the back of the crack the resin pushed through the drilled holes and a plastic sheet helps to smooth out the front, the resin was left for 50mins
Mr c then sanded the excess and the panel went for painting. once finished was like the crack was never there

thought would mention..

>The question is, What to do about it ?

I would drill a hole, as said, at end of split.
I would then rivet two stainless steel plates together........one on top of the plastic to match the plating nearby, and the other underneath the fairing to make a sandwich of the split fairing. No plastic filling, rubbing down, or painting....and I don't think it would out of place.
Depends if you can ignore it, and live with it .........Ian.

I told my dealer that vibration must have been the cause of mine splitting and Hymer replaced it free of charge.
