It's even worse with a caravan behind you.

Looks as thought your VW Navi is about as good as mine then, Roger. Here we are in the Lake District travelling along this 'A' classified road when suddenly the bloody thing comes to an end.
That metal thing with the bars and hinges at one end is called a gate. If you push on it, it swings open and suddenly it isn't the end of the road any more.

They must not have them in Germany

And I'm surprised you never got nicked for that black number plate, innit. If I was a rozzer I'd have felt your collar good and proper my son.

Well yes we do Pepe - in fact we've got one at the bottom of our garden which leads into the Paddock.

Blossom Touring Caravan Park, Abergavenny

That's a nice looking site Nev. Good find. I'm sure you'll like the area.

Our member, Whitewitch, is a resident of Abergavenny but she's rarely on here. If she does pick up on this thread however, I'm sure she'll give you more advice. I'll send her a PM and direct her to this thread.

We also do the barest of booking into Sites so we can stay flexible but it's not without it's planning. What better activity in the darkest of winter days...and there seems to be more of them these days than when I was a lad , or has age become an excuse for staying indoors to a degree which I would have berated my children for.

We decide on a area previously unexplored and map our tour around things we want to do and visit. After all what's the point in just sitting on a Site with nothing of interest to do. There are only so many times you can tidy up the awning ( I witnessed a camper adjusting his awning everyday if you know what I mean...it seemed to be his daily activity) or top up the water supplies! It's a challenge then looking for Sites! We often like to 'rough it' as the washing/ showering facilities in our MH are more than adequate even for the size of Lee ( 6ft and shoulders of a long distance swimmer in his time) We have often found little gems from lack of booking as we pass a site and enquire about vacancies. Actually that is an untruth now that we have internet on the move....we look up a couple of sites that will be en route and yes sometimes book ahead particularly in the school holidays. We have have only had to park up once in a country layby in 12 years of MHomes and that was because we had left our map in a coffee shop and it was the days before our Sat Nav purchase...infact that incident inspired the purchase of a Tom Tom! Anyway this new practice has taken out some of the adventure that I love....hmmm.....Thinking about it, do you fellow caravaners think this would be reckless with a Tourer rather than a MH ??

We usually have a planned destination for the day but equally if we come across a ' brown sign' that looks interesting we divert....sometimes never getting to the planned destination until another day if we really wanted to go. Spontaneous planning is what we call it! We fiercely resist routine and would hate to be those who leave and return to the the site at the same time everyday...and they are out there! Fair enough my epic caravanning parents do this ,with their hours away being from 10.30 -3.30 (just enough time to find a lunch venue followed by a post eating stroll and locating a bakery en route home to purchase cake to eat at 4.00pm in their awning- I marvel that they still erect it without requiring medical assistance!) but then they are in their 80's so any routine is permissible in my eyes!

I am wondering how much of our non routine, which has now become a routine in itself ( help!) will need and indeed can be adjusted from being MH owners to caravan owners? Any suggestions out there.?.......as we both settle down tonight with a map and our new 2014 Camping planning notebook

Lee & Sarah ( edited to include both names as Lee started this and then I hijacked it when he took the dogs out!)

Thanks for that SDA....it's actually a 2013 Troll that we are enquiring about....we are also waiting to see what the 2014 models are.
So you no longer have an Eriba???? Forgive me I haven't read all of the posts from when this forum began. Are you on a Lunar forum too?

Lee

Hi Lee. Yes our mate SDA went over to the dark side earlier this year. He's now known as a Lunar Tyke

Having spent many years with my in laws on campsites and sleeping in their very many vans ( they used to change them every 2 years and finally settled on an Eriba for the last 5 years so that sells it to me in the first place!) the retro, well built Eriba is the one for us. I love the idea of a caravan turning peoples heads too both on the road, service station car parks , not to mention Sites! I can also bed her down in the double garage with all her extras etc and park both cars in front. It will keep her clean and safe and easy access for the comings and goings of the cars. I have never been one to use a garage for the cars...far too much hassle and I am always running late! We are in the process of heightening the garage to accommodate a shiny Eriba! ...and shiny she can stay tucked away!

SDA- were you just wanting more space and modern facilities like microwaves etc? We know that to make up for the 'rough it' restricted space ( tho we want to feel we are caravanning rather than in a hotel suite) then a full length awning will address that....and sturdy enough for the 2 grandchild to sleep in! The 2013 Troll looks big enough for all of my 6 ft presence to be accommodated in the washroom.

Lee

If I remember correctly, being a big bloke, he had trouble with the 'address' position in the washroom.

He did post a hilarious account of his difficulties 'in another place' that had me laughing out loud but such frivolity was neither encouraged nor appreciated.

Do it again, Andy.

Andy just wanted a bathroom, big enough to turn around in, without banging his knees or head,
