Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

If you are posting an item for sale in this section, there are several things you might consider doing which will increase the chances of a sale and save a lot of the subsequent faff of innumerable private messages asking about it, and one which you MUST do:

.....................................................................................................INCLUDE A PRICE.

Please don't put 'make me an offer'. That's what eBay is for. And if you write 'open to sensible offers' it stands to reason you already have an idea what a sensible offer is, so put that.

.............................................................................AN ADVERT WITHOUT A PRICE WILL BE REMOVED.

Other than the most obvious thing of describing what it is you're selling as comprehensively as possible, please also include:

How old it is. This is essential if you are trying to sell big-ticket items, especially the biggest ticket of all - a caravan.

The make or brand. If you don't know what make it is or the label has fallen off, it's probably worth doing a bit of Googling yourself rather than expecting a prospective purchaser to do it.

A photograph or photographs. They really are worth a thousand words. If you don't have any of your own or can't take any, consider looking for a photograph of a similar item on the 'net. Try Google images, or eBay. If you find one, you may be able to save the picture and attach it to your post just as you would a photo of your own. If you can't save it, you can copy the link (the photo's 'address' in the address bar of your Internet browser) and insert that in the post instead.

There are instructions on how to attach pictures and insert links in this section here.

Give potential buyers an idea of whereabouts you are (or where the item is) in case it turns out that they are able to come and look at it or collect it in person.

As far as sending things is concerned, try using a site like Parcel2Go to get a price before putting 'collection only'.

People may be understandably disinclined to drive 200 miles to pick something up, but they might be perfectly happy to arrange for a delivery company to collect it if you are prepared to make a parcel of it.

The easier you make it for your potential buyer, the more likely they are to buy what you want to sell.

As an example of how inexpensive it can be, Yodel will do a 24 hour delivery on a 20 kilo parcel shorter than a metre - and collected from your place - for about twelve quid, so it doesn't have to cost the earth to send stuff.

..............Please remember that it's the seller's responsibility to ensure that the item for sale is correctly and honestly described, warts and all.

.............................When an item has sold, please either amend the original post to that effect or add a new one to the end of the thread.

...........It's difficult to quantify the risks, but this is an open forum so don't put phone numbers or addresses in your post. Use the private message system for that.

After a recent incident where an Eribafolk member travelled for 7 hours to view an Eriba that was not up to the condition he was told to expect, we though it was time to refresh the above reminder and also insist that :-

It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that the product for sale is advertised correctly and any known defect is listed. Special attention should be paid to any questions asked by the potential buyer and the correct answers should be sought.

In the above case it was not a Forum member but a Facebook member who failed to check the facts he/she was giving to the buyer.
