Jack stays up or down?

We expect to make some one night stops during our summer trip and to allow a quick getaway each morning plan to leave the Eriba hitched to the car.

If we do this do we still need to drop the jack stays ? Perhaps just the rear stays which would be under us and the bed ?

Thanks

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd wind the steadies down.

If you don't, any time you're forward of the axle you'll be overloading the hitch.

IMHO the steadies are there to help support an even distribution of the weight of the caravan.

When I stop and get into the van even for a quick cuppa or lunch I always lower the steadies, drop the jockey wheel and apply the caravan handbrake.

I agree with PLP above without this precaution you are exerting more load on the hitch.

As above and wind the jockey wheel down. As such I would also be amazed if you got the van level.
You could also set the car alarm off if you did not disconnect the electrics.

Thanks.
It's no trouble winding down the steadies so that it what we will do.
Sorry for asking a question with an obvious answer but we are new to all of this!

Not a daft question at all, Clive.

We discussed it a couple of years ago: here
