Only one problem is that the winding handle is on the same side as the hole where the end of the cable pokes through so it gets in the way a lot when winding the cable up.

how about sticking 3 or 4 bits of velco on the side of the reel to hold the loose end ?

If the cable end stuck out on the other side it would hit your arm on each revolution. And as that is the side you are holding the reel it’s hard to avoid. Therefore handle and hold on the same side, although not ideal, is the better design. IMHO

This one is better I think......

Probably the best idea is to not pass the caravan plug end through the reel. There is a capture hook in the belly of the reel itself and it is always advised that no cable should be left on the reel when in use.

Therefore, take the cable completely off the reel and use the internal hook to capture the cable end when winding back in. There's loads of space on the reel for a 25 metre cable anyway.
