The van is on a slight tilt and this is where the water seems to be coming in. It has been very windy and hard rain last night. I did see a post on FB that the black rubber needs to have a v cut out to let water drain off. Has anyone got any pictures we could look at, don’t want to be doing this if not right. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeepy, is your canvas tucked in when the roof is closed? If it is hanging outside water may be wicking into the van.

If you pulled back a bit for a pic, so we can ID where it's coming in on the van we might be better able to advise. A 542, so presumably fairly new?

Is the roof up or down?

Is the water coming in on the windward side/direction?

A van should always be pitched level, using levelling ramps if necessary.

The roof is flat around the poptop area but usually drains outwards if level. Put an angle on it and the water will flow inwards, build up around the lip and eventually overtop and come inside. We've pitched in howling gales and never had water inside. We've driven in torrential rain and nothing's come inside.

Hi Jeepy. I'm not going to be able to come up with a solution as I own the older type van with a deeper roof.

I have copied your photo though as when it's enlarged off your camera, it spins around by 90%. I've also enlarged the photo.

The ingress does appear to be coming in under the aluminium trim and not over it.

Are you camping or at home? If at home then the first thing I'd do is to tilt the van to stop the ingress temporarily.

Hi Randa. We are at home atm. We haven’t used the van yet. Yes we will try the tilt. Thank you

To me it looks like the water is 'hanging' on the aluminium edge , like a large drip that's connected itself to the furniture underneath and the bulge in the furniture at that point may be an optical illusion with refraction through the water droplet.

It's quite possible that Hymer don't feel it's necessary to fully seal the join between the aluminium strip and the hole in the roof because water shouldn't get that far under the roof overhang. Obviously in this case it has and it could be seeping in because it has pooled due to high wind, heavy rain and a tilt. There again, it might be that it should be sealed and it's been overlooked and/or not done properly.
