Very odd question

To set the scene. We have the larger of the two seating areas permanently set up as a double bed with an Ikea mattress on top of the cushions. We sleep across the van, I don’t mind climbing over Neil on the odd occasions that I need to get up in the night. This has always worked well for us. Recently a CT scan revealed that I have a hiatus hernia. Medication and a few lifestyle changes are controlling the severe acid reflux that I was suffering. One of the changes is raising the bed head at home on 6” blocks.
So the question is does anyone have any ideas how we can achieve that in the Eriba? Neil has thought long and hard and come up with nothing.

If Neil were to sleep across the van, you could sleep lengthways with your head and back resting on his chest.

Pleased to have been able to help.

What about two pieces of thick ply cut to length and width (I say two because of getting a large width into the van) then running a length of 6x2 to connect the two together the full width at the head end and a couple more in reducing height as you get lower to the feet end. Just a suggestion Morphy (Steve)

Oh and sorry to hear about your problem Julie can not be nice that!

Far more comfortably using both front and rear dinettes for sleeping in a 530. Relegate Neil to the front dinette and, if you say you leave the rear double as a bed, do the necessary to that.

I relegated Mrs R to the front quite a few years ago. I'm told it also stops babies happening

What about a wedge of foam on one side

My Mother had the same medical condition and, although she didn't have an Eriba, she just used loads of pillows to tilt her up. Might be less drastic than modifying the van?

Thanks guys.
Neil is not keen on introducing a lot of wood into the van because of the weight issue but it could work. Particularly if we remove the cushions, that would offset the weight gain. Not sure how comfortable it would be with the mattress straight on the wood, it’s only a thin mattress.
I like the idea of a foam wedge, simple solution, we were trying to over complicate the issue I think. Not sure if it would work as I wouldn’t be laying flat but sort of sat up, worth a bit more thought.
There isn’t an immediate obvious answer but food for thought.
Neil’s other suggestion is I stay at home on the raised bed as he doesn’t have any problem with the Eriba bed.

Sorry to hear of the problem.

Chin up.

Oh, that's what you're trying to do.

Sorry.

Mmmmmmm

How many pillows does it take to get a 6" net rise?

Depends on the weight of the head.

Best not use me to test it then.

Julie, have you tried googling 'wedge pillow for acid relux'? I just did and came up with at least six websites that offer such things for sale.

Thanks. Extra or wedge pillows might well be the answer if it doesn’t make me feel too sat up and bent in half. It would certainly be a simpler answer than extensive remodelling of the bed section. I never think to Google things, too old school. I can just manage this Forum, the wide world inter web thingummy bob is still a bit of a mystery 😂

Have you considered pitching the caravan on a sloping field, Julie?

Don’t forget that if you raise one end you may slide down to the bottom of the bed. Just remember to put the wedge halfway down the bed. 🍷

Straps might be required, but at this point, maybe the thread should be closed.

Hi Julie, Sorry to hear of your problems. My gran had the same problem and grandad made her something like a writing slant as in picture below and then her pillows were on top...just a suggestion.

Julie
You will probably have been prescribed Lanzaprozole for the reflux. Although the directions say to take that before eating, I have been told by a doctor that it is acceptable to take it at night to help solve the issue you have described.
Worth a try.
