AL-KO Wheel Lock on an Eriba

Having bought "official" Lunar alloys for my Troll, one of the bonuses is that there's an AL-KO Wheel Lock that fits the spoke layout (no.8 in my case). The downside is that it requires factory fitment (or maybe retro fitment) of the Wheel Lock Receiver to the back of one of the brake hubs. This was never, I think, fitted to any Eribas. Having looked, I think the holes to take the Receiver are there on Eriba brake hubs, sealed with rubber bungs. Hmmm, I thought, one to look at later.

When I bought a Purpleline FullStop Excalibur recently I noticed that, in the instructions, it said it could be screwed into an AL-KO Receiver. "Eureka!" I cried out, that means you should be able to screw an AL-KO Wheel Lock Bolt into the Excalibur tube work... and, yes, you can. Ideally I would buy and fit a secondhand AL-KO Receiver to the back of my nearside brake drum, but, for now, I have what appears to be a high security Wheel Lock helping prevent the theft of my Eriba. I already have a Wraith 2, which I can use on the other side.

Most Eribas will probably not be able to use this system, however there is a very extensive range of AL-KO "lozenges" to match different wheel spoke layouts, so may be you could also do this?

I think I must have too much time on my hands...

Simon

I can’t believe I never thought to research this before Simon,
Alko part number 1140116. I found them for sale, together with a fitting kit here
https://www.primaleisure.com/product/114...eceiver-ns-only
They’re not cheap mind, looking at £300 all-in per side.
There’s a tatty one on ebay for £89.

However, I suspect they’ll ’Knott’ fit my hubs!😬
Steve.

No, they won't fit a Knott. I have seen some reasonable ones for sale on Ebay, but they come and go very quickly. The problem with the AL-KO wheel lock system is having to line up the wheel and the receiver every time (not too bad on a 5 spoke wheel) - a nightmare on twin axles, I believe!

Using a Fullstop Excalibur receiver avoids the AL-KO receiver costs. You can buy the receiver alone for £47.00 from Fullstop.

All Alko chassis have the three threaded holes to fit the receiver unit. Before Covid you used to be able to buy the receiver and DIY fit it. However after Covid it was no longer freely available and I assume Alko had made it dealer fit only. I can see their reason as the brake drum has to be removed and that means removing the large one shot nut, which has to to be replaced and torqued up. The risk being that the nuts aren't replaced and not torqued properly.

Yep, I had many happy moments trying to line them up on my previous wwb’s, especially on Rally fiels while trying to get the van level as well.
I finally gave up and bought the excalibur.
