Plans for France 2014.

Yesterday I spent quite a bit of time considering a route for our 2014 French travels and came across this campsite which we thought some of you Francophiles might like ( even non-planners like Mr Cauldron
).
We stayed at this camp site a couple of years ago and it was very nice with a free shuttle taxi to and from Saint-Emilion which is about a mile or so away through the vineyards.
Saint-Emilion itself is a fascinating village totally surrounded by dozens of small, independent vineyards. There is a Petite Train that takes you on a vineyard tour. The village itself is charming but is full on wine, macaroons, art galleries and churches. All a bit too expensive for us (we re-named the place Costa Million) but still very much worth a visit.
About a 20 minute drive away, there is a brilliant Park and Tram Ride system that takes you into Bordeaux which is a fabulous city to visit and steeped in History, much of it with a British influence. If you go there then you must do the City Tour in the little open topped red bus

Did I mention that my ACSI card and handbooks arrived a couple of weeks before Christmas?
No, I haven't started planning yet but it will be somewhere in the south of France where the weather is warm and the living is easy.
Been to Bordeaux. A French teaching colleague of mine lives nearby and we stayed with him for a few nights en route to Asturias in our VW camper days. Arcachon and the Dune du Pilat are worth visiting.

Randa....we were looking for a site for 3-5 nights to round our trip up to 4 weeks and this might just fit the bill. It looks delightful. Many thanks as this might mean that we are all booked up albeit it a few weeks late as we usually get booked up at least for the main summer holiday by mid December. We have found that a lot of people book before Christmas and so have had to keep up the caravan world if we want to get exactly what we want rather than settle for the less popular sites.

Thanks Lee. We don't think you'll be disappointed. As for us, we obviously book the ferries but rarely book anywhere beyond that. We always prepare an itinerary but we go off course fairly early on in our travels.
This year, if we are to attend the Eriba Owners Club meet in La Rochelle, we need to be near there by 12th June.

We are thinking of doing the EOC meet but I am pretty sure that you can do whichever dates you want within the meet. It is not compulsory to attend from start to finish.

No, you're quite right. When we attended the Luxembourg one in 2012 we arrived two days after the majority and only stayed for 6 days. Quite fancy another go at La Rochelle though and perhaps this time rent some bikes and also a sea trip to Fort Boyard?
