We are here:- https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites...avan-club-site/

What an unusual caravan club site. it's a warren on small enclosed areas each holding about 5 or 6 pitches. A proper labyrinth. As always, a well organised site with no problems nose in, nose out, shake it all about. We have a huge pitch and if you stand on tip toe you can just about see the sea.

Some of the pitches further down the site have some really good sea views. Too far to walk into Brixham and too dangerous to walk down the hill to the Dartmouth ferry although there's a regular bus service in that direction. A bar/restaurant and a swimming pool. Very friendly and helpful staff.

There are a number of supermarkets within 5 miles of the site.

When we travelled down the M5 on Wednesday to that fictional place that you never seem to get to, Exeter, we spotted a Puck L we think. being towed north by a Royal blue people carrier, about 15 miles north of that city. Was that you we saw? There is one other Eriba on site, a newish silver 540, and the owners came across for a chat yesterday evening for a short while. Hello to Richard and Jane.

Brixham has grown over the years and we managed to park at a small multi storey on the new marina before walking back to the old part of the town which hasn't changed much. Very busy. In Tor bay there are several large cruise ships including the Queen Victoria, laid up because of covid. A sight to behold.

Today, we drove further up the coast as far as Babbacombe as we were told that the Queen Mary 2 was moored in the bay there. It certainly was with a few other cruise ships of the princess Line. Apparently, the Queen Mary is the soul remaining Ocean going cruise ship in the world. or so we were told.

Free parking across the top of the cliffs and we were fortunate enough to find a good spot. The model village is still going strong and we had to pay a visit but at £12.95 per OAP the price is very harsh. Hayho, that's UK prices for you.

Trying to up load some pics but the internet signal is too weak. I'll try later.

Sorry but photos don't load easily. I'll catch up when home.
A nice meal at the campsite restaurant last night. It's all very small holiday camp up there however with aged singers giving it what for with backing track accompaniment.
Today it was a very wet and overcast day at the campsite but we drove down the hill and took the ferry across to Dartmouth. Impossible to park but it was our intention to visit the South Hams.
The weather there was fine and Salcombe and Kingsbridge were very crowded.
Bigbury on Sea and Burgh Island was busy but plenty of parking. What a great place which is very famous for its Art Deco Hotel and tall tractor crossing when the tide's in.
More pictures to follow.

So, that was it. The long weekend (or short week) is over.

The past couple of days have been quite miserable and wet. We stayed on site on Sunday and we ventured off to Toterness (Hotspurs?) and Buckfast Abbey yesterday, It's supposed to be open but there was a sign on the entrance saying PRIVATE, no entry (no matter what your satnav says). So they didn't make a Fastbuck from us.

Here are some more pics of our trip for what they are worth.

The Puddle:- R IMG_1645.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte) Post Puddle:- R IMG_1639.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Although we are still quite impressed with the campsite and staff we were not amused when a large puddle appeared at our doorstep over the weekend. There was evidence on many of the grass pitches of 3.5 tonnes of campervan creating thier own furrows but although we were told to park as we liked on our pitch because we had a small van, the staff omitted to say that the ground flooded in one area(obviously being fed by a campervan furrow).

There was no evidence of a potential problem when we arrived but two others on adjacent pitches did tell us when they returned on the sunny day we pitched, that the bit we were on was prone to flooding and had been like that for two years.

I therefore had a go at one of the staff yesterday when we were taking down our awning. He asked if there was a problem and would we like to move whereas we were taking advantage of a dry day and a dry awning and replacing it for one night only with the Isabella SunShade.

Having now had three trips in the UK this year we are very, very depressed and just want to escape to Europe and do some proper camping.

How did the Vareo hold up to the weather?

Hi Mike. The Vareo was great and the mods we made to it worked fine as well. The noodles stopped all the flapping/drafts and the top rail seperated out the gumboil before shedding it over the sides.

We still need to get a bit of practice in erecting it as although we can do it quite quickly we still haven't quite got the knack of pinning the mud flaps down neatly.

Since reporting the fact that Buckfast Alley appeared to be closed I have done some more research using Google maps and it might be that there are two entrances, a public one and a private one.

The gate we arrived at had an unfriendly note saying that it was closed and strictly private no matter what the satnav says. It was part of the Buckfast estate however and there was no indication as to where the proper entrance was.

I've found what appears to be the proper entrance on Google maps but cannot find this private entrance. It wasn't far from the Otter/Butterfly centre. Does anyone know or can anyone help?

Hi Randa

Yes we feel the same with ours.

We haven't quite got it burnt into our memories yet and we didn't get the front right last time we pitched it.

Going to Walney Island this weekend but using our Kampa Popair (as strong winds off the Irish Sea or the other direction from Morecambe Bay suddenly spring up out of nowhere) and I'm sitting here wondering what we will have forgotten about putting that up properly.........................!

Are you taking noodle orders or running training courses on how to make them?

Short noodles for sale in Lidl today. Only £1.49 each (but I couldn't think of a use for them ).
