Having just been in France last week (Pas de Calais) for a few days, it was noticeable how nearly all the population were wearing masks, very few exceptions. I wish it were the same here...

Heres an interesting conundrum. She got her second Jag on the 31st of May. I got my 2nd Jag on the 9th of June. Therefore she gets a booster @ 31st of November, and I get mine @ 9th December. Happy days except for one thing. We go to France mid May 22, returning June 7th. Adding 6 mths to 31st Nov 21 means her booster runs out while in France, and mine doesn't. Mmnnn! Question is will the Irish need double Jag proof and booster proof? Also what will the French think of a vaccination booster not covering the trip? This is assuming the booster lasts 6 mths of course?

I would not worry as things will likely change between now and then. My thoughts are plan all you can and hope for the best. If "they" say you cannot travel then you will at least be covered by refunds/credits even though your holiday has bombed.

I'm sure many people are over the 6 month timescale already and it's not stopping people from travelling.

I hope you both are right as next year will be 4 years of missed France trips if it happens. A lot of this depends on when we get our booster jabs and how long they are valid for.
Whats the Loire region like weather-wise at the start of May anyway just in case?

In 2019 we set out on 18th May, spending 3 nights in Rouen [comfortable] then moving on to the Isle De Re for 2 weeks [[very warm and sunny, perfect]
From here we drove to Le Moulin in the Loire where we stayed until departing for our return crossing on 29th June.
The afternoon we arrived it was torrential rain, so the Isabella came out along with the Caravanstore on the back and we emptied the car and van before going shopping. A few hours later when we had got back, the rain had stopped so we put up the full awning. The next few days were wet and many folk packed up and headed south. Why I do not know as weather was very similar in the Dordogne and the forecast looked promising. Those few days later the sun arrived and the weather was glorious. In fact it was so hot many moved north to the channel coast for cooler weather. We stayed put as although not on a favoured riverside pitch we were only one up and could stroll to the river where we sat in the cooler air if needed.
I think the simple answer is the weather should be 4 to 5 c warmer than at home but it is also variable. The bread, wine, cheese etc is still excellent though. If I had to go in May then I still would, but I'd prefer to go end of May to have a better chance of excellent weather.

In truth, there is nothing actually stopping you going to France now. I was lucky to go last year (with the Eriba) and have been twice this year (once with the van to Germany for the axle job) and then just recently in a car to help a pal do some work on his house. You need to know the rules, have the right paperwork and jabs, and be prepared to give the right answers to any questions you are asked. Double jabbed and proof, statement d'honneur on the way out. On the way back, Passenger locator form filled out with the reference of the day 2 test shown (all day 2 tests have unique identities) and double jabbed (but as you were on the way out, that is a given)
Formal guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice...ry-requirements
Though that will change from time to time, so should always be referred to at the relevant time.

Hi, many thanks. Not 100% sure why my brain isnt working these days, but does the above refer to the return day 2 PCR (later lateral flow test) booking? I am assuming we would need to get the kit first to have the booking ref to allow completion of the passenger locator form?

You are correct. The reference is to the test you must take on day 2 upon your return from abroad (Day 1 being the first full day after you get back, so you take the test on the second full day after your return). This will change from a PCR test to a Lateral Flow test very soon with, presumably a significant drop in cost. As you suggest, you do need to get the test prior to the completion of the Passenger Locator Form (PLF). My routine has been to get one before I even go on any trip, so it is already waiting for me on the dining room table when I return. Another thing I have done is to create an account for the PLF and pre-fill a lot of the non-volatile date (eg, name, address, dob, etc) just the once and then when I need to fill out a form, much of the data is already pre-filled for me. Just makes life a little simpler..

We're going to England tomorrow. I ordered the test on-line from here https://boots.recova-19.com/ to be sent to my daughter's house. They e-mail you with the code you have to put on the passenger locator form. A right old palaver but worth it. Cheaper tests as from tomorrow.

Thanks. That's great info. The surety of getting the code is reassuring.

Lateral Flow test providers are now shown on the Gov.uk website. As suggested, tests are around £20, significantly cheaper that the PCR tests which were the rule...
