Folding Step problem

The folding step on my 2021 GT550 Troll has a habit of extending out when bumps in the road are encountered whilst travelling, I had to stop & put it back in 3 times last night on a 1 hour journey home, anyone else had this problem?, it could get nasty for me if approaching vehicles are too close in country lanes etc as can occaisionally happen.

Doesn’t happen on our older Troll, opposite problem really. I think a warranty claim is required. As you say, it could cause a real problem.

I can recall the step out twice on our 2017 Triton, of which one I suspect was due to the used not putting it back correctly. As above I would advise a warranty check on it.

Hmmm....I have had a similar issue with a 2020 530. Apparently the springs were replaced on first service which has improved things but there is still the occasional spring out; maybe once or twice since the summer. Whether that was because I had not fully retracted it or not; I will keep an eye on things.

We're a bit like Julie in that if anything the steps on our 2016 540 are stiff to pull out.

Think you are right to be a bit nervous. Until you get it sorted could you gash something to hold it in when you are towing such as a tight luggage elastic fastened round. Although you might get a bit grubby attaching it underneath the van.

We had the same issue on our 2020 540, discovered that the bolts just needed a bit of tightening. Would have thought Nylock nuts were a better factory option. No more issues since re-tightening.

Thanks all,
have just found that the two back nuts had fallen off, have now fitted nyloc nuts to them & tightened all the other bolts, they were all loose, something that all Eriba owners should check I think, before a major collision issue occurs!

Sounds like a manufacturing issue. Inform Eriba!

Yes exactly the same issue on our 2021 Triton. Mrs W was stepping down from the van when the step gave way. Luckily she was unhurt but it could have been nasty. Hard to believe that standard nuts had been used as opposed to nyloc ! All replaced now and much safer.

I've just checked mine and everything is solid. It does not have locknuts/nylocks, but would appear to have sprung washers also known as lock washers. If your van has these then it does not need locknuts.
