American Hymer blind arrangement

In another thread about the return of the 310 and 420 models, the slightly different style of blind was noticed. I had a chance yesterday to photograph the set up in Kari's Hymer here in the US to show a very similar system that was used. The blind is quite clever in that it can be linked to the fly screen such that when you raise the blind, the fly screen is brought up into place. The connection can be chosen to use or not with a small catch arramgement that joins the two parts together if required..

As Islay observed, they are a little 'fragile' (ie, not prone to breaking but are not particularly substantial) but I must confess, I do like the approach...

They've been standard fittings on the last three UK vans we've owned. Our current Phoenix Plus has them on the small front windows, either side of the big central job, but the side windows are the plain blind type.

You do have to watch out that the central clip doesn't break or detach itself.

My main concern was that they would be a bugger to keep dust free.

I can't say I-'ve ever noticed dust on them.
When they're out of use the folds squash together tight and go into a space in the frame with the aluminium hand hold bar across the top, so fairly well sealed away.
When extended the folds are at a 45 degree angle so not a flat surface for dust to lay on.
Is your neck of the woods particularly dusty?

I'm always amazed at the quantities of dust that gets into the caravan. Many campsites have really dusty/sandy paths and all the dust raised by passing cars gets in. Perhaps because we are more often than not at the sea that I notice it so much. Sand everywhere!

Praise be for good old Blighty. Hardly anywhere you can pitch right next to the sea that isn't wall to wall bungalows and so much rain that dust isn't a problem.
