1989 Eriba Duo - canvas top rail coming away from pop-top roof.

Hi all, on the pre-1990’s (approx) Eribas, the pop-top scissor angle bracket doesn’t clamp the canvas top rail, thus putting too much stress on the glue joint and therefore the canvas comes away from the pop-top roof.
Has anyone retrofitted hinges from a post-1990 (approx) Eriba? On these later Eribas, the pop-top scissor angle bracket clamps the canvas top rail.
Has anyone modified the existing hinges? If so, how?
Has anyone added a strip of metal (steel or aluminium? how thick? etc), clamped between the existing hinge and the roof, that is wide enough to clamp the canvas top rail.
The latter method is what I will probably try first, but was wondering if anyone has tried this and was successful or unsuccessful?
Please only respond to this query if you have actually attempted to fix this problem yourself.
Extra points for photo’s!
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum Phil? I'm guessing your problem with the pop-top canvas could be age related and it's shrunk, or the fabric is breaing down along the clamped edge. As you are guessing photos would help explain the situation. Posting them is not easy first time, so this should help:- How to include images in a post
If the fabric is past it's best then you could follow the lead of several members and fit a new canvas. The forum search facility should show some threads on this.

Just to add a bit more content to this discussion, Phil and I have been briefly discussing this on Facebook as I first got involved in an earlier discussion in 2015 with the owner of a pre 1990 Eribacar.

Here again are the two photos that member posted and it can be seen that the large angle on the first photo doesn't trap the bead that holds the canvas roof. The thing we didn't get around to was if there is a distinct difference in the canvas bead after the modification.

I do know that the Eribacar owner did fix it but by what method I don't know. Since that occasion I've pointed out the same thing to several owners with the same roof failure, some where there was a total delamination of the roof structure decided to take their roof off and take it to a local coach builder/fibreglass specialist.

Hopefully I’ve posted the only photo I have of the problem (not a great photo!).
The caravan is a couple of hundred miles away and the next time I see it (February), I’ll be towing it home.
Yes, the old (probably shrinking / stiff) canvas is probably not helping the situation, but there is obviously a design ‘problem’ with the early Eribas that was rectified by a different design of angled roof bracket etc. I’m hoping to somehow redesign my bracket to also clamp the top of the canvas rail (by one of the methods detailed in my first post).
(Hopefully, I will not need to replace the canvas, but if it doesn’t stretch enough, then I will have to).
I was hoping that someone has attempted this modification before, but maybe I’m the first?
I’m assuming others have just kept to the pre-1990 design and used gorilla-glue epoxy (or similar) in an attempt to stick the canvas rail back to the roof.
Regards,
Phil
