door shutting mechanism

just been in t'eriba for t bags for last brew, when putting key in lock turned key, without turning handle, the door opened about half a centimetre, enough for a bar to get in to force open
when locking with key, I normally turn handle to check locked door stays shut, but it moved again which meant unlocking closing door locking and not checking
this doesn't normally happen,
wondering, well fingers crossed the mechanism just needs some lube,
anyone had this happen or perhaps taken the door shutting mechanism apart?

hate to think how much a door mechanism is, may need to contact a very friendly dealer for costs.

had brain fade to what the door handle is attached to hence the strange door shutting mechanism name

any help welcome
P

We've not dismantled the mechanism totally Amanda but have taken the lock etc off the van for lubrication.
Ours has been a little worrying for a few years so we decided to buy a spare assembly last year in case the existing one gives up the ghost.
here's the thread link:- Replacement Door Lock. Jandi

Not much help, i'm afraid....................I have to push my door against the rubber doortrim, until latch clicks, then I can then turn key ( which goes clunk! ) then door is locked (which I test by turning handle until it stops short of opening door.)
Maybe yours does just need a touch of lubrication.....but, apart from a graphite spray, I,ve no ideas what to suggest it needs. Ian.

thanks Randa must be a January issue

probably daft questions to follow
did you get the black thing on inside to keep door shut and the round handle outer and the key barrel was extra?
does the barrel work with existing eriba locks key ?

Yes, they supply the whole caboodle, inner lock mechanism, round outer escutcheon plate and handle, fixing screws, gaskets and a new lock barrel. You will need to provide Jean or Sandy with the number engraved on your existing key and they will give you instructions on how to fit the barrel to the locking handle (using your own key) as it can't be fitted by them without a key. Once the barrel is fitted you don't have to use the new lock assembly immediately if you wish to hold it as a spare.

My door lock used to latch twice when closing it,
are you sure you are pushing the door completely
closed?

Thats what mine does, there is a groove in the part attached to the caravan, it is possible to partially close the door into this groove and not fully close the door, we use it sometimes at night, we often sleep with the door open OR on this partially closed setting, from the outside the door looks slightly ajar, as crow says maybe this is whats happened??

hopefully copy and paste thing will work

door on table

four screws to remove

the door turner ( oiled all moving parts)

fits into centre piece, removed circlip

two distinct cut outs

close view centre piece which has a spring

closer view lock oiled with sewing machine oil (not 3 in one because it has a sticky residue)

escaped ball bearing, this fits in those cut outs and rests on spring in centre piece and needs a small cable tie to put back in
put back together refit door and everything works correctly one latch not two, and the door doesn't open once locked which was the problem.
yippee
