If it’s the sink tap in the kitchen area then I too have had to replace it. I now make sure all the water is removed before winter storage. When you drain the system, blow up a balloon, place it over the tap and let go. This will blow our the water gently. To replace the spout take a look at Caratech.uk they will supply a new spout for about 12£. Just pull off the old one, smear the base and rubber ‘O’ ring with some Vaseline or olive oil and push on the new. Now need to dismantle the whole tap assembly and fixed in minutes. Simples!

Never use Vaseline to lubricate rubber O rings or gaskets - it is a petroleum based product which will cause the rubber to perish.

Silicone grease is the correct lubrication for rubber seals and gaskets.

Sorry they’re not rubber! They’re made from plastic! And if you’re going to be critical, gaskets are there to make sure two surfaces mesh together and gaskets should never have anything put on them, except in specific instances where a little grease is put on them just to hold them in place. Ask any qualified engineer

The problem is that if you don't lubricate O rings, they can distort as the components are assembled and fail to seal the joint. I too would only use silicone grease for this purpose.

By the way, JohnE is a qualified engineer
