Puck on board fresh water

My Puck uses an external Whale pump. It looks like it's an after market fit. The parts used however are obsolete and are stating to show their age. The inlet socket is bolted under the chassis and doesn't use a surface fitted inlet. I use very little water and it would simplify my setup if I reverted back to what I suspect is the original setup ie a smaller container under the sink. The wires are all there but what container should I use and does it go on the floor or the shelf above it. I presume you just shove the container in and drop the submersible pump into it ! This would alleviate the need for an external plug and socket. Or am I getting it all wrong ?

A 13L container was I believe standard. The screw top will have a hole for the water pipe and typically a 12L/min reich pump on the end. You will have another small hole for the pump cable. I would not advise sitting it on the shelf as it is heavy. To fill it up you may want to carry a small watering can with a bit of hose on the nozzle. It is easier than lifting the container in and out, having to empty half of the cupboard.

I was thinking it had to lay flat to fit in. Does it stand upright. I have the 120 GT with the inbuilt gas locker which may mean my cupboard is too small.

This container is similar looking to mine but I have a Triton 430. Have a look on ebay under water containers, there were lots of other types on there.
Maybe someone else that has a Puck with an original container might put a picture on here so that you get some idea of what you are looking for.

Thanks, I was thinking your suggestion was bigger than it is, I was being lazy and have just measured the height available and it (or something similar) will fit in. Leaving it fitted and refilling with the watering can suggestion may allow something even bigger !

The water container under the sink in our Triton is marked '16L' and is retained against the cupboard wall by a strap and buckle. The strap is attached to the wood by two screws and cup washers.

Water is heavy so unless you want to struggle carrying it from standpipe to van or alternatively have space to carry a folding sack truck, one of these will simplify matters.

The flexible spout allows you to fill the tank in situ with the minimum of hassle.

A watering can full would be about my limit to carry and probably last me a day. Do you have to remove a submersible pump every time you fill the container. A separate filling point would be useful.

Why don't they produce a blue food grade watering can, rather than us having to use any old colour, chemical leaching plastic.

Just unscrew cap on container and hold it to one side while pouring.

Thanks everyone for talking me through the details. I'm sourcing all new stuff now and will plan the changeover to suit the season or when my old stuff fails. Liking the watering can conversion, it will be interesting to see what mine looks like.

I've had to amend my previous post as the container is 16L and the strap is retained by two screws and cup washers.

These pictures should clarify things:

This shows the container as installed under the sink.

Here you can see the retaining strap and its fixings

Hope this helps.

The only thing to watch out for is to be sure to get a container that has the locking ring separate from the inner part through which the water pipe and cable pass otherwise you won't be able to turn the cap to unscrew it.

I'd have thought that someone who has converted their own water supply might have an original container to pass on to you to simplify matters.
