Saves looking at "The Green Light" !

Sheesh...

Anyone would think it was The Eye of Sauron.

Nobody thought of sticking a bit of insulating tape over it?

Or maybe you're all too worried about being disembowelled by Uruk-Hai in the middle of the night.

Muahahaha...

You been eating cheddar before bedtime again Pete? A spare sock, clean or otherwise will cover the green light when necessary.

I always preferred the red glow at night a la Das Boot or the Hunt for Red October. Our first Innovation had reading lights on a flexible arm with a single red LED in the middle. The lights were touch sensitive and successive touches cycled them through 'off, 'red only', 'single row of whites', and 'double row of whites'. It meant you could have a gentle red glow in the van and a red pinpoint which you knew if you touched the van would be flooded with light.

Apparently they originated in boats but I've not seen them advertised recently.
