Taking a shine to a Triton

Yesterday and today I have been mainly cleaning the caravan prior to next month's continental foray. So, what's so special about that, I hear you ask?

Well, yesterday I de-smegged all the white Herzim trim with meths, washed and manually polished all the paintwork and plastic trim and then gave it a protective coat of wax.

Today, for the first time however, I used a dual action car polisher (DAS-6 Pro plus) to revitalise the very tired looking roof, and what a difference it has made. The polisher made very short work of the dull, chalky finish on the fibreglass and, after wiping off the compound residue and manually applying a coat of Topwax, it now gleams like a factory-fresh van. It certainly looks good for a 15 year old.

A few more pre-flight checks to do and then I'll perhaps give some thought to where the hell we are heading once we hit Calais.

Did you use Auto Glym or just the car polisher before re waxing?

I'm on a continental journey next month and with that shine you should stand out. My triton will be the dull one.
One of the disadvantages to having her parked on a secure site is that its awkward to work on unlike my old puck which we had parked in our garage.

I used Auto Glym resin polish on the painted metal but waxed direct onto the fibreglass after wiping off the cutting compound as it was very shiny and needed no further polishing.

PS Bloody hell! I'm starting to sound like Agger.

What's "white Herzim trim"?

Herzim is the brand name of an aftermarket trim strip infill used in the middle of aluminium extrusions like the awning and waist rails. It covers up the screws fastening the rails to the body.

The infill strip fitted at the factory isn't Herzim, but some people use Herzim instead if they want to change the trim colour or just smarten things up.

For what it's worth, the OEM trim strip that Jandi can provide is both cheaper than Herzim and easier to fit. It's also miles cheaper than the same stuff from AL.
