Curious about bed support

Hi Folks,

2007 Triton 430GT bed support along the rear end as the attached photo.

Mine is obviously not original and I wonder what was there originally and perhaps why mine was changed?

81 views and no replies. No Triton 430GT circa 2007 out there?
Just curious why that piece of wood would need replacing.
Thanks.

It supports the end of the bed but why you don't need one at the other open end I don't know. Yours may be original you never know.

Hi Ray, I can see why you think it's non-standard as it is just a grubby bit of untreated timber but our 1999 Troll is the same (although in better condition).

Isn’t there an extra cushion that uses that support? It makes the end seat wide enough to actually sit on. I think many Eriba owners may have consigned it to the loft (along with the unused awnings😄).

Hi Ray, Mine is exactly the same on my 2006 Triton. It supports the seat on the side when forming the bed across the van, the other side has an aluminium arm.

Tony is correct. Our 2014 Triton had a hard plywood backed rectangular cushion seat that rested on this wooden ledge - even though we had an end cabinet! As ours had a freestanding table, it (theoretically) enabled someone to sit at the end, but only if you took the cabinet out (and only if they were a contortionist to be able to get in/out). We put it in the loft, in fact, even though we don't have the van any more it might still be up there!

Lesley, you've made me think now. Our 2008 420 that was wrecked had a piece of wood like that. We had an extra cushion that rested on that to make sturdy seating at the end. Not sure what happened to that cushion, it wasn't in the van when we had the accident. Have a nasty suspicion that it may be in the loft. Heyho, trip up the ladder to find out.
Sorry for not answering the OP, never occured to me that our Triton had the same bit of wood.

I wonder why the Puck has one. It has 2 strong wooden dowels to fully support the bed and no space to fit an extra seat.

There's no seat on our 530 Troll either. It is a shelf to support the side of the bed when the seat cushions are pulled out while a pull out aluminium bar supports the other side. Cross ways sleeping..

The Puck is inline sleeping. It may be extra support when sitting up in bed.

Our Triton has that. It supports the bed as tomored said.

Hi folks, thanks for all the replies.
My point really was that I can see the purpose of the length of wood but I'm curious that mine doesn't look original, is a bit rough and even has pencil marks where the fixing screws are.
It just doesn't match the quality of the rest of the interior.

Doesn't matter, just curious. 😀
