My grandmother had one on a wooden stand in front of the tiny (12”?) screen of their first TV. It was in a huge wooden cabinet. I remember the magnifying glass but I don’t remember watching the coronation on it although my ageing mother says we did.

The reason you didn't see the TV is because these things need to be looked at from one direction. Move a little and the object moves from view!
