Does anyone have any suggestions on fitting a new spout to kitchen tap? Do you use soapy water or silicone?

Silicone spray lubricant will do the trick. Buy a couple of cans and you'll be able to treat the window, door and locker seals too - it will keep them supple and also prevent the windows from sticking shut.
