A bit of fun really
I like my vehicles and have quite a collection at the moment (it will be slimmed..a bit)
1972 Triumph GT6
1981 Mini 1000
1994 LR Discovery TDI
1995 Toyota MR2
2003 BMW Z4
2005 Nissan Terrano
2013 Ford Fiesta
Oh and a works Transit van
I wouldn't mind getting another old motor bike, but I don't think Mrs C would be to happy
Any way, back to the heading, what was the first car you owned.
My one was 1969 Ford Escort MK1, it was a 2 door 1100 in blue and was so unreliable. It was a pig to start and failed it's first MOT with it's Flint stones floor. It was 13 years old and I PX'd it for a Talbot Sunbeam.
So what cars did you guys start with and what do you have now.

A 1974 Renault 6TL which I blew the cylinder head on after 2 months. I wanted a 4 but could not find one. Currently an Audi A3 1.5 petrol. Love it.

A 1964 Ford Anglia 105E in Trafalgar Blue. Only had it for about 4 months before the doors fell off, well the door pillars rusted and they dropped considerably.
That was followed by a Mini 850cc (a proper one).
Then a succession of Fiats, it was our business. Fiat 128, 131, 132. Then a couple of Volvo estates, followed by the Fiat Multipla which we ran for 14 years. Everyone hated the look of them but I loved it.
Today it’s the Honda CRV, not sure what it will be if we ever need to get another car, towing seems to be a real issue for the electric/hybrids which are becoming the norm 🤔

Ford Anglia 100E. Bought for £35 from a local Auction. Good little car until I left it at work one night while on an overnight run. When I got back it had been stripped of anything useful.
Ford Classic/Capri
Cortina Mklll Estate
Lada Samara 1300. I went to the dealers to look at a second hand Peugeot 304. SWMBO looked at the Samara and said 'It's the same price'. I did 100K miles
and spent no more than £10 on repairs (other than tyres, the last one went at 83K). It must have been a Wednesday car, everything worked perfectly, 45mpg and 105mph (clocked officially, downhill)

I've never owned a Ford and the only one my father ever owned was a 105E, also called the Super if my memory is correct. Dad used to work for the CEGB and was on 24hr call so as he needed a car he was given a generous a car allowance. He bought it in 1962/3 and it was burgundy with a light grey roof. Despite his lifelong reservations regarding Ford he always spoke fondly of that car.
Below is me next to it in the summer of 1964? when I was 3 years old.

A 1955 faded Maroon Morris Minor split screen side valve engine. Bought it in 1967 and took my driving test in it the same year much to the dismay of the driving instructor who for reasons of testing my eyesight asked me as soon as we left the office to point out which car was mine in a line of black shiny cars parked nearby.
Only lasted a 12 month as with the help of my father, we decided that it needed a decoke but the head had welded itself to the block. Even a block and tackle hooked to the roof of the garage wouldn't budge it.
So next was a dark green/light green/rust red Wolseley 1500 AND the number plate was WOL.

Mine was a 1964 two door Morris Minor. The first of a continuing theme. Loved them. Our last Morris was a 1957 Traveller.

Some time after my Cortina was wrecked, I had a visit from the law asking a lot of questions. Turns out someone had dossed down in the back and passed away. A couple of years later I had a VW 1600TL which expired and was sent to the great car park in the sky. A couple of months later, guess what, the law visited. Someone who turned out to be a vagrant had dossed down in the back and passed away. I suppose when I said "not again" it wasn't the wisest comment!

My first car was a 1964 850cc Mini Van complete with ventilated floors, cills and wings. A mate welded it up for me and ultimately it ended up with a 998cc Cooper engine and remote gearshift, much better. I also passed my test in it.
Now I have another mini, a 2013 Cooper 1600. Despite BMW's changes it is still a great car and real fun to drive. When I retired it helped me fall back in love with driving again after too many years up and down the M5 for work.
The Landy is 'Er Indoors' car, except when we tow, then I have to drive.

Great story Cabbie and lovely that you still have her. Do you use her still.
I nearly bought a Chummy a few years ago, but the guy had sold it before I turned up.

Yep, in fact I have just built a new engine for her. She hasn't seen much use in the recent past as my 1937 Cabriolet has been getting the lion share of use. This was taken on our way to Interlaken a few years back

IMG_1744.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

I've had the Cabriolet since the late 90s and has proved a great car.

The other car in the stable is a 1932 Riley 'Plus Ultra' Tourer which is a really good car, totally different from the Austin 7s. Kari and I honeymooned in Scotland in her when we married in 2017..

A Chummy I describe as 'an itch I am yet to scratch' and have been looking for a good'un for the last year or so. For those who don't know, 'Chummy' is the common name for a Vintage 4 seater open Austin 7 and they look like this...

2022 is the Centenary of the Austin 7 and I am helping organize a huge event in the Cotswolds where we are hoping to attract 1000 Austin 7s. A surprisingly realistic target given their popularity. Although their survival rate is not fantastic, there were 300,000 buit so there are still plenty around.
