Lower the roof in high winds

We are away in the new forest at the moment, I lowered the roof last night because of forecasted high winds.
Do others do this ?
A few people have taken their awnings down, because of the wind.

I have taken to lowering the roof when it is cold, which has also coincided with windy conditions.I would also lower the roof in high winds, partly because of the noise. As I'm short I can safely do this and still walk along without head touching the roof.

I'm probably quite tall, like yourself Colin, so can walk around..just, with the roof down.
Just don't want any damages to the roof mechanism. What sort of wind speeds will these roof's handle ?

In answer to your four replies, I don't know but would not try to find out through trial and error.

We were pitched at CMC St David's back in 2011 when the Great West Wales Hurricane struck. We had no awning but the WWB in the next pitch had their porch awning reduced to tangled metal and strips of canvas. We did drop the poptop but thinking since I doubt it made much difference from a structural pov, though the noise reduction was worthwhile as it allowed us to sleep some of a very boisterous night.

We always drop the roof in very high winds and have also started dropping the roof every night in high summer as daylight wakes us up a 3.30am. We sleep much cosier with the roof down.

Sorry about the multi posts, phone was having a moment!
The neighbouring WWB had their porch awning blown over the roof of the caravan, so glad we pulled out awning in and put the roof down.

It's not just their van at risk, flinging awning metal posts about could damage other vans and cars.

Luckily their van was past ours, so went away from our direction.
