Help, toilet problem.

That got your attention.
Ok, we’re away from home and the round blade of the toilet has come off. When you turn the little green switch/knob thingy there is only a little wedge of plastic visible. We found the blade in the tank (don’t ask). Having removed the circular top bit of the toilet to get all the internals out we can’t actually see how the blade mounts to the wedge bit, there are no screw holes or mounting points. Was there a little plastic bit or something which has now vanished with the toilet contents. Whilst the toilet is still usable, good job too as we’re on CL’s with no facilities is there anything we can do before we get home? Don’t have much data, no WiFi here, from memory don’t think the Thetford website was that helpful. Anyone?

Just had a quick look and if I understand this correctly there is a lug that sticks up in the centre of the blade which locates it.
This link shows the blade

There is also a video on YouTube showing how to replace the seals and blade.

Thanks Aycee, looks like I need to order a new blade when I get home then. That little lug must have broken off because there’s definitely not one there now. The van is 14 years old so I guess it’s entitled to have worn out.
Will probably need to get hubby Neil to watch the video as he got slightly confused changing the seal last year. Once he’d sorted his left from his right it was all good.

Before you attempt your repairs get yourself some Killrock descaler. After a soak and scrub as per instruction our loo has come up like new. The Frantone's are also fans and I think it was them who steared me in the direction of the stuff.

This thread has proved really useful as I need to replace the seal on my C4 cassette - the videos make it all a lot clearer.
I'll probably replace the blade at the same time as it is an 18 year old van.

Looking at how stiff the release mechanism can be for the top access plate I do wonder whether a spot of olive oil on the joint might be a good move.

Not sure what the video shows, but I seem to recall you can open the access plate a lot easier if you use an old car number plate as leverage instead of the 1/2 slid out blade.

Rather than messing about, why not treat your van to a Thetford Fresh Up set https://www.thetford-europe.com/gb/fresh-up-set

I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
But to settle down and write you a line

That is what you do after you've tried to save money by doing the simple repair yourself, broken something and/or given up in disgust...

Well I’m really pleased with myself. Got a new blade for just over a fiver plus P&P. It arrived today, I watched the video, unscrewed the gubbins, attached the new blade and reassembled. It was nearly perfect, just the knob wouldn’t turn, minor detail. Neil had a quick look, reversed something and hey presto I’ve fixed it, nearly all by myself 😂

The one Aycee put a link to. Some Aussie bloke showing how to take the gubbins (technical term) out. My toilet was a lot cleaner than his though 😲
