Handbrake gas strut

Coming home after a long trip to the Outer Hebrides, I realised my gas strut on the handbrake of my 2015 Troll 530 had failed. The handle flops and has to be pulled hard up to second notch to engage. Getting it fixed seems harder than I expected. Mobile repairers don't know the part number, Al Ko say they need the 811 number that's on a silver sticker on the overrun to confirm what I need - no sign of that...and even LeisureFirst (where we bought it) could only send a link to a part on an Al Ko trailer specialist site with a slightly un-confidence building note "we THINK it's this one"..... I assume it's a case of fitting a new handbrake assembly with gas strut included but which?? Any advice or experience of this most welcome!!!

Not sure it'll help but this does go part of the way to answering your question.

The vans we are talking about are dated 1999 so the parts may have changed since.

How to replace the Eriba braking damper

Hi Randa, thanks - but that's the main towing damper. I'm talk about the HANDBRAKE gas strut, part of the handbrake lever mech. Pushes the handbrake lever up when the reverse device operates on the overrun.

Yes you do need to replace the whole handbrake I think from memory the whole coupling is the 161S and the alko part no is alko 220096

There are quite a lot of places online who sell the complete assembly zippy mentioned above, several of whom say that the strut is not available as a separate part.

This might be slightly disingenuous - what they may well mean is that they can't supply the strut as a separate part.

If you do a bit of rummaging around, the part number for the strut (which wouldn't be an Alko strut anyway) cross-references with this one from SGS.

I think I'd give SGS a bell as a starting point.

A replacement strut is much less expensive, obviously.
