94 eriba puck brake drums,etc

Hi out there,
After stopping at Chester services for a coffee followed by a 30 miles drive with the handbrake ON !!! On inspection at the side of the road after taking the handbrake off I noticed that the wheel trims had softened, yep red hot brake drums!! Consequently NO brakes on the Puck, no problem really as it only weighs in at 600kg and towed with a VW T5 so I do not notice it really when towing. On the way home, about 6 miles away I had to pull up sharply at a roundabout, this flipped the reverse mechanism over and locked the caravan wheel on the drivers side!! Luckily there was a bloke passing who saw what had happened told me to reverse the Puck which freed up the mechanism. I managed to get the Puck home steadily as I think that wheel bearing had collapsed and yep when I parked up and put the Puck onto axle stands both wheel bearings were past it. If it did not have cotter pins I think the wheels would have come off.
So the reason for this post is the brake drums for a 94 Puck are casting number 278991, 160 mm Diameter, 100mm BCD 4 stud 16mm nuts and the brake shoes are 160x35. Oh yes and the cost of the works a total of £420. That was an expensive coffee!!!
Anyhow just been fixed today and now ready to roll again, but with a big sticker on the dashboard which says HANDBRAKE OFF.

It's one of those things that can happen Zate, so don't beat yourself up about it.

We had a part brake drum failure in Scotland on 2022 not because the handbrake was on but we got it home
.
Have a look at this thread.

It includes details of a great company in Northern Ireland that got the parts to me.

Hi Randa,
Yes its what it is. I put the handbrake on to attach the hitch lock whilst away from the Puck having a coffee. Very nickable these Eribas!! Had to put the handbrake on to get the hitch lock off and like a DH forgot to take it off until it popped into my head 30 miles down the road. Got my ear bent a few times by her indoors, but that's normal.
