Do you weigh your gas?

So, just went for my first cylinder of gas, from Morrisons. Dropped off old 6kg and it was clear that there was no system for separating full and empty cylinders. Eventually I was given a "full one and charged £41.75. When I got home it went on the bathroom scales to weigh in lab's, subtract the tare weight and then convert to kg's. I had just purchased 2.74kg!
Back to the garage and after a little searching found a more acceptable one which upon weighing turned out to have 5.91kg's. Near enough this time.
Taking bathroom scales with me next time seems a little over the top but I get the feeling it's a jungle out there!

If you do this then you are looking for the cylinder to weigh the tare weight plus 13.2. All in lb's.

How did they end up with half full cylinders? Well, either there's a fiddle, or more charitably someone has retired from caravanning and taken their old cylinders back to reclaim the deposit?

Peter, I'd say the later is unlikely. Many years ago I took a cylinder back to claim my deposit. They nearly fell over in amazement as I was the first person they could remember who had the original copy of the deposit/contract and as such was actually able to get the deposit bac.
Hopefully when I come to replace my bottles I should not experience the issues you have. My Calorlite comes with a gauge that is a fairly accurate indication of content, and my Flogas Gaslight is a clear bottle.

The full bottles should be locked up and opened only by the staff to dispense a 'live' bottle. I think that may be the law.
