Shock Absorber replacement

I have read this mornng on the Facebook group how a chap had replaced his shock absorbers (on a 2005 Troll) and that this had been 'transformational'. I have asked him in what way things had been improved and am yet to hear back. However, as I plan some maintenance o my 2002 Troll before our Iberian escapade next month, I am wondering whether it is a worthwhile thing to do, as mine are likely to be the originals for the van.

I would appreciate any thoughts from the team, particularly if anyone has had any actual experience of doing this and what the outcome was. It seems a simple enough task..

TIA...

Mine are really rusty - had been towed in the winter by the previous owners, and not washed down afterwards. Much, much worse than my 2005 Triton had been. I am thinking of replacing them, but I'm not sure how easy a job it is to tackle as a competent DIY-er (and once-upon-a-time vehicle mechanic). I'm assuming it's a standard shock absorber across the Al-Ko chassis models - mine has the blue plastic cap on, the same as ones I have seen on other WWBs with Al-Ko chassis.

After doing some research, it looks like "octagonal" blue ones for a 1300kg rated modern Troll. Possibly the appropriate weight one for an older Eriba too? The Al-Ko description and range is:

RANGE:
Single axle up to Weight:
up to 900 kg - green
up to 1,350 kg - blue
up to 2,000 kg - red
up to 4,000 kg- black

FEATURES:
Design up to 1350 kg single axle
Colour blue
Weight 1,3 kg
ean 4003718020915
Manufacturer Article No. 244085

Yes, I believe that to be correct, Simon. Alko Blue From the little bit I have read this morning, a couple of 19mm sockets and a torque wrench are what are required. Presumably the tricky bit might be compressing the shock absorber to get it onto the mountings (at a guess?)

Thanks for the link - they are cheaer than the ones I have found so far...

Perhaps @JohnE might be able to give some insight?

They may be sent pre-compressed? I have had that with car shocks sometimes.
