Great holiday until the bed collapsed!

Our first proper holiday in our Troll 535 and it was all going so well until 3:am on the final night when the bed collapsed.
This is the single bed at the front. One person, 170 lbs, it just went.
Not quite as dramatic as it sounds and didn’t damage the table itself but the rail had come off the end wall.

Neat holes and no real damage but now puzzling about the repair.

Options as I see, in order of complexity:

1. Replace screws using plugs. Possible longer screws, not sure how long I can go but the current ones are 10mm.
2. As above but add evostik to the rear of the rail. Although as the rail is ridged on the back maybe a different adhesive would be better?
3. Drill through to gas locker and replace screws with countersunk machine screws and large washers, or possibly metal strip.
4. Fix rail onto a batten and possibly incorporate step for support.

The table rail is also loose but of course doesn’t take the same weight and bears onto a step. I think longer screws may fix this one.

So, I know there are some very handy people on here and I’m sure this has happened before (I’ve done a search but nothing came up).

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Did a Google search which brought me back to here:

Front Bed Collapsing

Looks as if it’s a common problem and I’m attracted to the frame, to transfer the load to the floor.

Have a look at my comment here:- Front Bed Collapsing
Another alternative would be to use nuts and bolts to attach the rail to a sheet of plywood whose bottom edge sits on the floor, then screw the plywood to the bulkhead.

I’m attracted to your original suggestion of refining the rail with the current fixings, adding plugs, then supporting with a piece of ply fixed to the bulkhead.

But first I will clear everything out and sit looking at it for a while! As I get older I find that looking at the job and thinking for a while saves time in the end!

I know what you mean about thinking things through. I've often woken in the night with a solution to a problem and have to scribble it down on a bit of paper. If I don't then I may have forgotten it by the morning.
My second thoughts about nuts and bolt fitting the strip to the ply is because whilst the plywood underneath the re-fitted strip would take the vertical load, the strip could pull out from the bulkhead. If the strip is fixed to the plywood going up the back this could not happen.
