Have I knackered my Truma BGE10 water heater?
Have I knackered my Truma BGE10 water heater?

I posted this in the section on repairs but on reflection it might be better on this bit…
Whilst packing for my trip to France and Spain I inadvertently knocked the electrical switch to my Truma water boiler which was drained down. I only noticed when the red led lit up. The manual suggests that this is fitted with an overheat protection and turning it off for 10 mins should allow it to reset. I am now in France and connected to ehu, with the hot water tank filled. But the water it not warming on either 50 or 70 degree setting. The led goes out if I turn it off, but when I turn it back on after a couple of seconds there is a click and the led comes back on.
I’d like to sort this as I’ve only just started a month long trip so my questions are:
Is there a manual ‘reset’ I could press? ( Some YouTube videos suggest there is but they seem to address a different boiler to the one fitted to my van.)
Might I just have blown a fuse?
Have I burned out the heating element?
Is there a helpful dealer / heater fixer that is known to the hive mind around Rouen (Jumiéges), Le Mans, or Niort / La Rochelle?
Many thanks in anticipation
Roger (no, not that one)

There are 2 controls for the Ultrastore BGE10 - one for gas operation which incorporates the status LED, and the other is for 230V operation which has 230V engraved on it.
From what you say regarding audible clicks I suspect you are using the gas control switch instead of the 230V one.
When you switch on using the gas control the boiler's gas valve opens (with an audible clunk) and then the igniter attempts to light the burner. If the gas to the boiler is turned off, or the external flue cover hasn't been removed, the boiler's start sequence will be abandoned, the gas valve will close (another audible clunk) and the red fail LED on the gas control switch will be illuminated.
230V operation is silent and there is no fail indicator on the controller.
Running an empty boiler on 230V will cause the thermal trip to open which cuts off the 230V to the element. It usually resets after switching the boiler off and waiting a while for it to cool down which can take up to 1/2 hour (or shorter after filling the boiler).
Having said that, there is a possibility the element burns out before the thermal trip operates- it depends!
The BGE10 doesn't have a manual reset facility.

Thanks for your speedy reply John. However even trying again making sure that I am working the right switch gives no joy… The “click” is more of a sound of a relay / switch than a gas valve ‘clunk’. I will try to attach a picture of the led on the 240 v switch ( but I have v poor internet)
Cheers

I am so embarrassed I may need to leave and rejoin under another name…
I went to take the photo only to confirm everything in your post.
Yes I pressed the ‘wrong’ button.
D’oh
But on the bright side it now seems to be working ( yippee)
Many thanks for indulging an idiot!
Roger ( as was - definitely not that one)

Roger, I believe we have all had "moments" similar to what you have experienced. I definitely have. The learning curve keeps on going and it is so good we have a true technical guru in John.
