Ratchet window stays

Unlike the thread in 2024, my stays are not stuck but are over enthusiastically engaging when trying to close the window.

When the window is fully opened the little metal blocks clearly move into the free position, but then engage randomly, but regularly when trying to close the window. This is happening every time with the side window preventing it closing and occasionally with the rear window which, so far, will close after a few attempts.

Lubrication helped very briefly, but then the ratchets seemed to engage even more positively.

As a temporary work around, I have inserted thin strips of plastic cut from a nursery plant label to prevent the ratchet engaging which, at least, lets me close the window.

Am I missing something or is this a regular problem with this type of stay?

If the stays are faulty it is presumably a warranty issue, but, unfortunately, I purchased the van from Adventure Leisure. Hymer have not responded to me asking them to whom warranty issues should be addressed.

The ratchet stays are always a pain. Just stay with it.
