SDA but you can't get on this site with your Nexus........ ( see my other post about territorial Google...)
I totally agree with SDA about iPads. Totally do the job and because I also have an iPhone so I am totally synced! My photo stream, data cloud and Sound cloud are also synced to my 17"dell laptop. I can also tether my iPad easily with my phone so no longer pay for Site Wifi for when they charge. I find the laptop does not tether quite so reliably.

Ah the problem that I had since my ID change has been overcome. Thanks to some advice from members of the CT Forum I was able to find out how to clear the cookies on my Nexus 4 and once that was done I was able to sign in here with no problem. It seems that there was a cookie or cookies on the Eribafolk file in the phone that was/were stuck and wouldn't allow new replacement ones in.

In my very humble opinion any money you pay for an anti-virus is money down the drain.

There are plenty of perfectly good free ones; Microsoft's own Security Essentials, AVG, Avast...

If you want to avoid installing some gloopy software which will only slow your machine down, you might consider Panda, which runs remotely and is free as well.

Antivirus is only worth getting if you've got a Windows-based machine, and even without an A/V if you stay clear of dodgy sites and don't open any attachments in e-mails from sources you don't recognise, you're very unlikely to pick anything up.

Whatever you do, don't use Norton or McAfee. If you get it free on a new machine, uninstall it before you do anything else. They're horrid, bloated, overpriced and overrated piles of rubbish.

And if you've got an Android-based tablet or an i-anything, antivirus is a waste of time.

Ok we have an ASUS laptop with Windows 8 and Kasper "whats it" installed anyway. Got email set up and also a bookmark tool bar with all our usual places to visit as on the Mac.

My main proble apart from trying to type with two very badly broken fingers (surgery on them tomorrow) is hitting the control button when I want the shift.

Gettiing on reasonably OK so far but now want to print envelopes and my HP All In One whilst oldish but WIFI will not do it or show me how.

I've got W8 for Dummies book and that doesn't explain why not either. I'm guessing it's something missing in the MS software, either Wordpad or the HP itself.

Will try harder and keep searching but it might mean a call tomorrow to the local little PC specialist shop that sold me it and ask them. They have been very helpful so far, very understanding and easy going on an old git/old Mac addict on a very steep learing curve.

Thanks to all for the above and sorry for raising the old Mac v PC battle.

Derek

Check the HP site for a download of the driver that works on windows 8 for your model of printer its probably running on a generic one at the moment.

if i remember correctly you have to enable it manually with a code the printer provides for your laptop to ensure a secure signal
i did it once but once my printer was shut off at the plug it forgot all settings (it was off for 6 months)
so i now use the usb wire
there was a cd provided with the printer, and again if memory serves this had to be installed before connecting to printer.

i cant really advise on win 8 but on win 7 you could go into the round window icon in tool bar and look down to the devices and printers and check settings
there

you can actually talk to computer (windows speech recognition) and get it to press keys itself again this was in win 7

the set up was in Accessories menu then Ease of Access menu
