Thank you for you good wishes everybody.

I had my 'surprise' birthday lunch yesterday at http://www.spotgateinn.co.uk/the-pullman-cars, we were sat at the table shown in Gallery pic 2. An experience, but the food was slightly disappointing with my steak pie being a steak casserole with a mass produced pie crust thrown on top. The crust was stale and hardly warm and the roast potatoes had no crunch.

So far this morning I've had a Birthday McDonalds lunch with Mrs SDA, my daughter and my 4 year old grandson. I've had some pressies, including another jumper!!! plus a copy of 'Raising Steam' by Terry Pratchett, a copy of the AA Caravan & Campsite Guide - looks v good so far, some plastic van steady pads and a dozen banana foam sweets, sadly not the chocolate covered variety which are becoming as hard to find as hen's teeth.

Wow, with all that pie and beer in your belly mate, I hope you were allowed to use the loo even though the train was still at the station...

It wasn't THAT authentic, you had to get out of the carriage to use the loos, which appeared to have been purchased from BR at the same time as the carriages, but were rather eccentrically decorated with Jack Vettriano prints.

Just thinking that today may well be the warmest birthday I've ever had, the car thermometer read 11 degrees this morning. Now, more typically scything down with rain from a drab, grey sky.

Happy belated birthday SDA. Sorry about the jumper and your lunch pie quality but the luncheon environment sounded interesting! Maybe a home cooked meal served in your van could go on your birthday wish list next year!

Thank you kindly Unhitched and all.

Old habits die hard and this evening Mrs SDA is cooking the chicken & veg. dish from the Remoska cookbook in the Remoska at home.

On my 65th birthday, last year, Mrs SDA told me we were having duck for dinner. She even bought a duck a few days before and put it in the freezer. Halfway through cooking she asked if I'd give her a hand to 'turn' the duck. I thought this rather odd as a duck isn't v big and then I wondered how one duck was going around the assembled family throng.

It was only when she opened the oven that I realised that the 'duck' was actually a 'goose' which had been 'hidden' at a neighbours. I'd been asking for a goose for dinner for Christmas for years and finally I got my wish.
