If you need to buy the cable to do this conversion make sure
the two earth cables are 2.5mm the rest are 1.5mm
This is the only dealer that sells the correct cable.

That's interesting Rod and here's something that will send Pete off into a tizz.
Our Eriba has 2 x 7 pin electrics, so we've foolishly had our cars electrics wired to suit the van. In hindsight we should have re-wired the caravan.
Anyway, when we started going on long trips to Europe we realised that car or caravan breakdown cover meant that in the event of the car letting us down, we could possibly be given a rented car to carry on with our travels. Therefore we have bought one of these :-

Yes, I'm aware that it won't run the fridge etc but it will at least give us caravan driving lights.
However, if the caravan lets us down should we be thinking of one of these also :-

we use the one with the wire in between for the 13pin from 7 x 7 pin the advantage is can run fridge without the road lights, or everything all together. or just the road lights, also extends the caravan wire if socket a bit far away.
I prefer the 7 x 7 pin layout less chance of disturbing other wires and causing a fault, ease of fridge and battery charge isolation, but everyone has their own preferences and reasons

A thought has suddenly struck me !!!
About ten years ago when camping in France, our towing trailer gave up the ghost and we had to buy a brand new "Franc" Trailer from a dealer near Orleans to continue our holiday.
That trailer had 7 pin electrics so does that mean that Mainland Europe car owners who wish to tow a trailer or a caravan always have to use a 7 pin adaptor?

Careful now - that's the second time this year. Don't go overdoing things for goodness sake.
Regarding the trailer question. Yes, here in Europe - well certainly where I am anyway - most if not all trailers have 7-pin sockets. The thinking being that most people don't transport their grass cuttings to the tip whilst at the same time cooling a beer in the onboard trailer fridge so why go thirteen pin.

Zitat
most if not all trailers have 7-pin sockets.
So by the same token, UK cars towing modern caravans have the same problem. Hmmm. A bit silly really. How long has 13 pin been the norm on the continent and why not supply all modern trailers with 13 pin suitably wired with towing electrics only?
So an adaptor is a useful bit of kit for any car owner with a tow bar and 13 pin electrics.

I agree you can usually find the generic bits at a much better price, but Eriba dealers are usually the only source for special Eriba only parts.
