On older vans if you can find one of these,

Usually just inside the door at floor level.

The first number denotes the decade example

3 = 1960's
4 = 1970's
5 = 1980's
6 = 1990's

And the second number is the year

in the photo above 593709

Becomes decade 5 =1980's and year 9 making it 1989

It covers all early models as far as I know, but it needs that separate plate, its not related to the long vin number.

The stamped number on the aluminium is very difficult to read, a top tip is to place a piece of white paper just below it horizontally. This takes away the glare and makes it easy to read....

At long last went and checked out our number. Am not sure which one is the right one. Our Future 430T was built in Mar/Apr 2002.
Our plate is to the left of the door and says the following:

Series No: 81 02 14 08
Then there is a long number starting VGN 2MM 000210547
1200KGS (presume max weight)

Maybe the '02' on the Series no. is the year and '14' the week??
On the VGN '2MM' maybe is the year 2000 and then '0002' is the year etc .
We have always been curious how many of these vans were made as production was less than 2 years due to over engineering and over priced but to date have never been able to find out.

Have rechecked and its correct 81 02 14 08
I went through the list that Christophe put on the Eribaforum site and seems now most numbers started with 62 for the 2000 decade , 2nd 2 numbers are the year and maybe 3rd 2 numbers are the week???
i.e. Troll 2004: 62 04 0643, Troll 2007: 62 07 ...., Troll 2003: 62 03 0508.
Triton 2004: 62 04 53 16, Pan Familia 2003: 62 03 19 30

Could not find another Future on the list so do not know if '81' was the number given to these vans.

Maybe someone with a newer Eriba can look at their Series Number and let us know what the first 2 numbers are.

Randa: You mentioned some Futures have Eriba on them and some have Hymer...we have both!!.. Above window is written Eriba and below in the centre is Hymer. We are guessing ours was built in Germany as all the paperwork attached is in German.

I was told that it may not work after the year 2000 which is now confirmed, originally the plates only had six numbers and maybe the system changed when they moved to eight.

I'm a little late to the party, but our Eribelle Serial Number is 175137. I believe it's 1986. On the link in the original post, there is another Eribelle Serial number that is also 175xxx.

Do you know if there is any information out there on how many Eribelles were produced? I know numbers were low, but 500 over 4 years seems extremely low!
I would love a way to know how many are still around.
