Any experience with caravan roof covers

Having taken the AL cover off our Troll I was disappointed to find a thin film of dusty mold covering the lockers, despite having a dehumidifier water absorbing block inside the van. Now wondering how advisable it is to seal up the van for the winter. Our main reason for covering the van is to keep the bird mess off the rook as we have wires they sit on stretching across our drive, so wondering if a roof cover would be a better idea rather than a full cover. Any feedback based on personal experiences with roof covers would be welcome

We use a full cover in winter, to stop soot from wood fires spoiling our Troll, use small de-humidifiers also and not had any problems. that has now been removed and put away but i still cover roof with a 19tf maypole roof cover that fit about a foot or so all round the sides and front and back windows, easy to clip on and undo to open door for access.

Did you leave your windows on night latch? You need some ventilation during the winter.

So, logically, if I took the old threadbare cover I have and roughly trimmed it first. I could turn the top inside out and put it over the roof. Then I could put double sided tape at awning rail level and trim the edges, 'cos I don't do sewing ! Then turned inside out it would keep the roof clean ? Hmm, how to keep it from flying away...will have to think about that, but suggestions welcomed.

I have used a roof cover, it does stop your roof getting dirty, however the downside is that it covers your cutters so you get black water marks all over the van rather than just the four corners.

You have to be mindful where you place the straps when fitting the cover as they can cause slight swirl scratches on the window.

I think that your problem is ventilation. Open the windows to night latch and your issue will disappear. Pull seat cushions out a little to let air circulate underneath and leave locker doors open. If you can put seat cushions on edge on the floor even better. I leave all cupboard doors ajar including toilet to let air circulate throughout. Never had an issue with dampness or mould in 30 years doing the above.

As our drive is so narrow it makes it very difficult to fit the cover in one piece, I chopped our cover up into separate panels for the front, sides, rear and roof.
The front / side / rear panels have awning beading sewn to the top edges so just slot into the rail. these also have velcro along the top edge that the roof panel sticks to. You could fix a roof panel alone, by having awning strips with velcro sewn to the edge, then stick the roof panel down to that. (plus a couple of straps for security).
My modified cover also has the advantage of being able to roll up the front and rear panels independently if you just want a bit of light and to open the windows.

Yes I did leave windows with the small gap, but still got a disappointing outcome

I did have the windows on night latch all winter - I wondered if that was the problem, but consensus seems to be that I was right to do that. Didn't reposition seat cushions or open locker doors, so that may be worth a try next winter. Thankfully mold on roof canvas was on outside and brushed off OK.

Use of a proper dehumidifier rather than just a moisture absorbent block may be worth a try. Will investigate Maypole covers for our Troll 540GT, thanks

Try a Protec or Specialised, they are a lot more expensive but they will have more breathable properties..
