Building and dismantling your awning

A question for you? How do you ensure that your awning is kept clean and mud free when putting it up or taking it down?

In the past we used to have a Clairval Traditional Chalet awning where the fabric came in four pieces; the roof and "legs", the front, the two sides. Therefore it was quite easy to slide the roof into place before building in the sides and front.

Nowadays however awnings including air awnings come in one piece. We have been taking along a large plastic tarpaulin to lay the awning fabric out on but in our case it seems an overkill as we have a lightweight awning which we have managed to keep off the ground as we build or dismantle it.

It got us thinking about how others manage?

As I guess you do, we are weather watchers and might take down our awning early to avoid rain and mud. We leave our groundsheet down when dismantleing to fold the awning up on. If away somewhere nice and hot (do you remember the good old days), then we would search around for a nice piece of grass in the sun, set chairs and table up on it and drape the awning over them so we could wash the last bits down.
