Door self locking

We have found that our door keeps self locking even though I've lubricated the mechanism. We've decided to hide the spare key on the exterior part of the van in our secret place. As anyone any tips as to why it keeps doing it . Many thanks Phil.

This is a fairly well known problem. One year I had to climb through the underbed hatch, push the bed up and crawl my way through, not a pleasant experience but a very interesting site.
If you flick the catch up, inadvertently or deliberately on the way out then the door will lock. Best thing is to strap a spare door key somewhere to the chassis or axle.

Crawling through the underbed hatch I deff couldn't do that claustrophobia and all that. Mind you 6ft and 16 stone wouldn't help me. Any way we've hid a key ....just in case cheers Phil.

Ours has always done this. There is no connection with knocking the latch on the way out. Just randomly the inside lever over latches and locks very slightly. Sometimes a sharp bang on the outside handle is enough to unlock it again. We have a spare key on a magnet hidden on the chassis somewhere.

Yes so have we after reading a couple of posts about the door accidentally locking and Colin doing his version of a contortionist.

This seemed a cheap and easy solution just in case, even though it has never done this on our Troll in the 10 seasons we have owned it.

I have suffered this in the past (luckily with the kitchen window open) - and once when my wife huffed off to the shower block and couldn't get back in on her return. She banged loudly on the door and accused me of locking her out...

We now hide a spare 'flat" (no bulky plastic fob) key in a matt black magnetic lockbox - damned hard to find even when you know where it is...
