New to the forum and having recently purchased a 2015 Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 (used to have a Suzuki Alto ) that can tow up to 1300kg, considering the 85% rule, it's a 1,100kg for me. If I'm correct, given the maximum nose weight is 75kg for the car to tow, I'd have to purchase an Eriba that is 1,000 kg or less?

Welcome. The 85% rule is just a guide. If your Volvo has a max tow limit of 1300kg then that is what you can legally and safely tow. Remember you are towing a low and narrow caravan, not a big tall wobbly white box [normal caravan] so your option are open to nearly all but the latest and heavier Trolls of 1400kg+.
As regards the nose weight. Whilst 75kg is the max, I've always found 60-65kg gives me the most comfortable tow so I would advise aiming for this as a baseline and see how you go.

Hi. There is an Eribafolk meet taking place near Fort William at the end of next month. Yes it's a 2 hour journey for you but I'm sure I could get some of our friends to show you around thier vans if you are interested.

Thanks. Yes, I know the 85% rule is a guide, but with a West Highland Terrier as a co-pilot, I'm not so sure about towing to the max of 1300kg. I'll give it some thought. I'd really like a 430 Touring pre 2010 model as I've read that post 2010, the caravans are not as robust. Is that correct? There is so much to learn and understand. I've given it some thought....already.... So, I could get a caravan with an MTPLM of 1300kg taking into account the nose weight and the mass in running order (906kg) and may still be able to initially tow much less than 1300kg and build it up to 1300kg if required? Depending on what former owner(s) have added, such as a motor mover, awning etc.

Hello, Yes, that would be great if I could meet up with Eriba owners. Last year a friend suggested a Go-Pod which I went to view at a caravan dealers and instantly adored the Eriba but, I'd like a pre 2010 model. When and where is the meet up? Thanks

I towed a 2005 Triton 430Gt for the last year with our 2017 Volvo V40 D4 (190bhp) and it towed it beautifully. Last week I picked up our new 2016 540 Troll with the same car and it towed even better! The 3004 Alko hitch is excellent, with no sway at all on an (at times) truck laden 230 mile journey home from south of Bristol to sunny Suffolk. The basic Troll is very little heavier than the Triton. It's what you put in it that ups the weight!

Thanks for your advice and yes, I plan to attend the 'Eriba Meet Up' weather permitting as I'll be camping.

The 85% guideline is not 85% of the towing limit but the weight of the car.

Hello from WeeBairn! It was unfortunate I was only able to camp for one night, but, enjoyed the 'meet up' and seeing the different models of Eribas. And, of course meeting some of you. Also the advice from yourself Iain, Steve, Debs, Wendy, Eric, Sue, Gaynor and I think Elma......sorry if I've missed anyone out. All a great bunch! Thanks for allowing me to view inside your 2nd homes.
