Roof won’t close
Hi I’m looking for advice
We are on a trip to France and when packing up from our third site I had problems pulling down the roof
After a lot of swinging off the handle and a lot of swearing I borrowed a ladder from the site to try to have a good look up top
Confusingly the roof goes down with the lightest of touches when pushed from the outside. I was able to have a good look and an see any obvious problems
It may be that it is very dry of any greasing and this may fix the problem but wondered if anyone has had the experience before I head down a rabbit hole
Cheers
Iain

Hi but are you pulling the right end down first? I think it's the back on newer vans.... I could be talking out of my elbow.....; someone will be along soon.

Iain. A good dose of silicon spray is the answer. Not grease as it will mark the canvas. silicon spray dries clear.
We do ours through the vents and don't forget the spring and sliders fixed to the roof (not poptop).
Do NOT use WD40.

When I viewed our new Troll before purchasing it, I opened up the roof, then couldn't get the back to go down after the viewing. It just wouldn't budge at all. I had to apologise to the salesman and say they needed to grease it. When we collected it had been greased and now is smooth as anything to open. I also remember my Triton did the same after getting it out of storage last year - again a spot of carefully applied grease sorted it out.
Incidentally, there's a brand new scissor mechanism for sale on Ebay at the moment if anyone needs one £70.00ish...

Success!! The silicone spray worked a treat. Another job added to my maintenance schedule
Thanks as always for the sound advice

It's good to keep a can of it in the van for lubricating the awning track, and squirting onto a rag to wipe over the window rubbers. And don't forget a can of PTFE spray to go on the sliding window stays.

Hi
I am like Colin & always have a can of silicon spray with me when we go away in our Troll.
I have had my scissor action roof brackets "greased" by a dealership a few years ago and they used a strange vaguely orangey looking "grease" stuff which I didn't like.
At the start of this season they were both a bit stiff so, rather like Randa, I opened up the fly screen material on the vents and gave them a good spay with silicon twice a day for two days followed by a working up and down of the mechanism. This worked a treat and a couple of months later they are still going up perfectly.
We are going to Scotland on tour for nearly a month soon and will re-do them before we set off.
Cheers

The 2003 Eriba maintenance tick off sheet, that I have a copy of, says to use Vaseline on the mechanism.
Gummipflege is also very good (IMHO even better) for all the window rubbers - it's a rubber revitaliser (means "rubber care" in German) and is also great on door and window seals in cars. A one time treatment lasts years and brings back the black, shiny, original finish to any rubber parts. I had a car window that used to stick in frosty weather - one treatment cured it and it has lasted two years so far.

Thanks Simon
That sounds like something that would be useful for me to use on our Troll and cars. I have just ordered some from Amazon but it won't come until mid-May
Cheers
