I just purchased what Europeans call an Eriba Troll 550. Here it is a Hymer Touring GT. It was made in Canada in 2018, just before the failure of Hymer North America apparently due to fraud.
Considerable challenges for me, but I have RV experience. I want to change to Solar with Lion fe batteries and all new electronics to accommodate the batteries.
There may be repairs as it was purchased as is. I think the design is excellent, big where it needs to be.
I want to install an awning, not sure what I can get over here on Vancouver Island.
I will post updates as the work progresses. I welcome suggestions, Remember I am 110 volt with a completely different hitch arrangement, even different trailer connect wiring, with an external battery compartment, which also houses a 20 lb propane tank.

to the Forum. It sounds like a challenge, but that's half the fun isn't it! I have a lot of connections with Vancouver Island. I'm sure we could find a way to ship stuff to you if necessary

Cheers, Simon

Hi Koogan and welcome to Eribafolk.
There are a few American made "Troll" owners on here and on our Facebook page.
One person, Cabbie 37 who owns a UK Eriba also has an American made one as his wife Kari lives there.
Check out The post entitled "His 'n Hers".
There are others but I'm not able to research them at the mo.
It'll be interesting if you could get together and discuss them live on this forum 👍

Hi Koogan. As Randa has said, my wife has a Hymer GT in the US which we have enjoyed using. They do have their foibles though, so be prepared for a little DIY to keep on top of things. Not wishing to suggest another resource than this group, but you may find the Hymer GT group on Fc=acebook a useful group to follow...

Hope that helps!

Thank you, I have looked at the other site which is very helpful. I am arranging an axle lift by a nearby trailer company, who may come with yet another simpler version. I'll post the results. The unit has a great design, but I knew as a diy guy work would be involved and it was priced accordingly.
I could use a manual and structural or parts diagram as I have to reassemble some components.
I see the AC can be improved but the posts are a little vague-better ducting.
Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sure I would welcome that too, not sure how to arrange that. The unit will be assessed tomorrow for the axle lift which is clearly essential. It is suggested the AC can be improved, looking for more details on that project.
I will solarize the unit, an put a 2nd propane tank in the case on the front, after putting the lithium Ion batter(s) inside. I will install 2 100 watt solar panels on the roof, and as I have done 2 of these solar projects before, follow an earlier procedure.
I would like to find a repair / assembly/ parts manual to see how it was assembled. I need to reinstall some of it.
The dealer who sold it to me assessed it and noted all necessary or advisable fixes, nothing 2 major. I agreed to do those repairs myself for a discount.
I think the design and many components like the windows are exceptional. And I fit in it!

Hi Kangoo…

My wife did the axle lift in her Hymer and we reckon it made a ton of difference to the nature of the van when being towed. Ground clearance is also improved, of course, a bonus with all the a/c etc below the floor . Our guy followed the approach taken by Jason Eddy who posted a really helpful YouTube video showing how he did his. If you haven’t seen that yet, I really recommend you take a look..

Kangoo..

One last thing to point you to. If when you go to the Facebook page, if you click on the ‘Announcements’ tab at the top and scroll down a bit, you will find a post from Ashley Kemp that will point you to the ‘crowd sourced’ user guide, put together by owners as a result of the lack of an official one from the manufacturer..

Hope that is of use…
