Having had our eriba troll 540gt (steve) now for over a year our insurance is due with the CAMC.
I've had various quotes but the small print on the policies all say you must be registered with Cris.
To make a claim for total loss. Now my dear departed friend never registered this van from new it's now 10 year old should I be looking to pay the £72 to register obviously having concerns that my caravan insurance could be invalid if say its stolen with out the cris certificate. I've contacted Caravan Guard insurance they say its just a recommendation but the policy does say MUST register with Cris
As anybody got any ideas on this dilemma....I've rang the camc club insurance and even they recommend cris registration in the small print .is this a grey area were a possible claim may be refused they say not ????..cheers Phil.

Whilst the C&MC insurance is good, I do not use it due to it's CRiS requirement along with 3 security devices and a £600 to £800 premium. I'm with Lifesure, £31.5k total cover, new for old, low x/s, stored at home, 30 days European cover, all for just over £200.

If it's written in the policy then the insurers have a way out if you don't comply. If it isn't a policy requirement then they can't use lack of registration as a way to disallow a claim. So if the CMC say its a recommendation but not a policy requirement then it isn't an issue.

This cris registration certainly is a grey area that's hidden in the small print that I bet not alot of people are not aware of it basically it should be written into Law like a car log book then the grey areas can't be hidden .....cheers Phil.

It took me a while to find this thread as I remembered it from a while ago. This unfortunate Eriba owner had their claim rejected because it wasn’t CRiS registered and it was in the small print. If they can wriggle out of paying they will.
In a pickle with CRIS...

If an insurance company require CRiS registration, then I find it difficult to see how they can issue a policy without recording the CRiS number. If they had then they had not acted with due diligence. The situation of an unsuccessful claim should not have any chance of arising.

I can't remember where I said it recently but if it is that good an idea to etch your windows with a recognition number why did the 70s fad of etching your car windows not take off?
You would think that car Insurance Companies would have jumped on the band wagon.

Quote: Randa france wrote in post #7If you fitted a vanity plate you'd end up with a different registration on the windows.

I seem to remember at least one of my recent cars having an IMR label on the windows, which drew attention to a unique ID number independent of the registration?
Haven’t looked on the i30 but I will tomorrow.🙂
Just for the record, there was no mention of CRIS when we were paid out last year.
