Incredible Collapsing Side Table modification

Our new 2016 Troll 540 has the flip-up table in the doorway, attached to the kitchen unit. It is definitely a worse design than the one at the other end of the kitchen unit on our previous 2005 Triton, which used one of the "old fashioned" brown plastic fold-out supports to keep it in place, reliably, when in use. These more modern interiors have a steel hinge that slots into a groove in the table when you lift it up, with a fabric strap to catch it when you lift the table upwards to allow it to drop, before closing it. This design is very poor, because it will collapse at the slightest upward movement, dropping your hot cup of tea on your feet, if you're unlucky. This needed urgent improvementI

I searched the internet for inspiration and came across an upgrade suggested by "Eriba Man", who got it from "someone on Facebook". With a few tweaks I have installed this on my Troll and am very happy with the improvement to safety. I fitted a short, chromed, stainless steel slip bolt, which, when pushed forward, stops the hinge from coming out of the slot, thus preventing the table from dropping unexpectedly. I positioned it so that, when fully forward and locked into the side cut-out of the bolt, it is in the perfect retaining position with no slack. When "unlocked" and pulled back to the rear, it enables the hinge to drop out as it originally did.

The fabric webbing was, unfortunately, now too tight to allow the hinge to drop (because of the extra size of the bolt). I changed it for a longer piece of webbing and it is back to operating as per original design.

I did then find that, although the table now folds flat against the cupboard side, the extra thickness of the hinge prevented the table from staying flat. I sourced a 1cm thick, high power, stainless steel magnet, which I placed behind the folded table, with a flat metal plate attached to the underside of the table. This works really well, holding the table securely against the side of the kitchen cabinet when not in use.

Nice modification Simon, but I'm upset that such a perfectionist such as yourself has used csk screws.
I was lucky with my Triton in that my table flap was fairly resistant to dropping. I do recall taking the webbing strap off, soaking the ends in pva glue to stop fraying and then when re-fitting using cup washers for a better grip.

They might be csk (and a bit big headed...), but they are stainless steel - and the bolt was countersunk ready for the screws...

And, to be fair, you never see the screws.

OK - I know, I know... but I will still know they are wrong...
