I must have missed this Eribafolk Facebook comment when it was first posted but it has just reappeared and I thought it worth sharing.

Thanks to Nick Rosenburg for the information.

Bendy Bed Poles : Yvonne Kendall-Rosenberg and I were taken aback when we discovered that our double bed's bridging poles had bent on the first night that we spent in our new 2014 Eriba Troll 530. We are not petite people but neither are we huge, just average.

I managed to bend the poles "almost straight" but soon realised that I had to do something about this problem or spend the rest our caravan trips, being very careful in the bed at night, checking the poles and bending them straight each morning. It seemed pretty pointless replacing them as, presumably, the replacements would also bend.

So, nothing for it but to make my own stronger replacements. I bought a 2500 mm length of 25.4 mm (1 inch) diameter aluminium tube with 6.4 mm (1/4 inch) thick walls from a metal stockist on eBay. The metal stockist offered a free cutting service so I asked for the tube to be cut and delivered as two lengths, each 1050 mm long. I had the two poles anodised at a local plating company and finished them off with 25 mm plastic ferrules, also bought on eBay.

One of the photos with this post shows the difference in thickness of the pole wall between the original and the DIY replacement. The original is clearly not fit for purpose.

Finally, without the anodising, the cost of the pair would have been £29.24 for the two poles and £4.50 for the ferrules (I bought 8). The anodising was horribly expensive at £65 plus VAT (£78) but it made them look a bit better and feel cleaner than plain aluminium.

Hope this may help anyone else with bendy bed poles.

We replaced ours with stainless steel. Please see the thread 'Bed Poles' started Wed. Jan. 27, 2016. Sorry don't know how to connect via a link.

I Think it's this one although the added link in Magpie's post above, is also relevant

Bed poles

Thanks for reminding us Jennie and Bob. It's always good to tie like threads and posts together.

It is worth mentioning that we have discussed bed poles with Cameron at A/L in respect of our current on order Troll (with spacious dinette!)

His reply was:

"In regards to the bed poles this is something I am aware of but the percentage of issues has been minimal, the majority of them were due to incorrect erection of the bed. However I have made a note for your bed poles to be reinforced, in essence we have an insert for the poles to strengthen the core and this will defiantly eradicate any possibility of this issue."

This is the sort of service that I have come to expect form Cameron and A/L.

Resurrecting an old thread here: I have just bought a 535 Troll with bed poles which are bent! I'm wondering how it's possible to erect the bed incorrectly? I suppose you could put the backrests in the middle?
Any help would be appreciated!

I think backrests over the void/in the middle could cause a problem as you could have 3 unsupported joints over the void as opposed to one, and hence more pressure on the tubing.
I replaced the tubing on my Familia 310 many years ago with "Gas Barrel". I also use this when building fitted wardrobes. It does not bed.

I thought "gas barrel" was a side effect of eating too many beans, Colin...

This might help:

1) Pipe is made of a long hole surrounded by metal or plastic centred around the hole.
2) All pipe is to be hollow throughout the entire length.
3) The ID (Inside Diameter) of pipe must not exceed the OD (Outside Diameter) — otherwise the hole will be on the outside.
4) Pipe is to be supplied with nothing in the hole, so that water, steam or other stuff can be put inside at a later date.
5) Pipe is normally supplied without rust; this can be applied at the job site. NOTE: Some vendors are now able to supply rusty pipes. If available in your area, this product is recommended, as it will save a great deal of time at the job site.
6) All pipe over 500 ft (150 m) in length should have the words "LONG PIPE" clearly painted on each side and end, so that the contractor knows it's a long pipe.
7) Pipe over 3 miles (3.3 km) in length must also have the words "LONG PIPE" painted in the middle, so the contractor will not have to walk the entire length of the pipe to determine whether or not it is a long pipe or a short pipe.
8) All pipe over 6 ft (1.83 m) in diameter must have the words "LARGE PIPE" painted on it, so the contractor will not mistake it for small pipe.
9) Flanges can be used for joining pipe. Flanges must have holes for bolts, quite separate from the big hole in the middle.
10) When ordering 90 or 30 degree elbows, be sure to specify left-hand or right-hand, otherwise you will end up going the wrong way.
11) Be sure to specify to your vendor whether you want level, uphill or downhill pipe. If you use downhill pipes for going uphill, the contents will flow the wrong way.
12) Couplings should have either right-hand or left-hand threads, but do not confuse the threads otherwise, as the coupling is being screwed on one pipe, it can unscrew from the other.
13) Pipes shorter than 1/8 in (3 mm) are very uneconomical in use, requiring many joints. They are sometimes known as washers.
14) Joints in pipes for pumping compressed air must be air-tight. Those joints in pipes for water, however, need only be water-tight.
