Changing to Lithium LiFePo - charger upgrade?

Hello everyone.

I have a 2020 530. Standard Schaudt CSV409. It does not support Lithium battery charging.
I have this year fitted a victron smart solar charger and have a 200w external panel. I have upgraded the main fuses from the battery, fitted 12v busbars and battery isolation and a separate 12v accessories fuse board. I have a battery protector that disconnects the new fuse board when voltage drops too low.
The CSV409 continues to handle the charging, lights, water pump and fridge supply when towing.

Right, the good news is that we’ve just won a 280Ah LiFePo battery in a competition!

Do I:
-by pass the CSV409 charging. Run the standard 12v circuits from my newly fitted fuse board. Don’t worry about fridge when towing.
- as above but connect fridge 12v towing supply to a permanent 12v supply. Will have to manually remember to turn fridge off.
- something else?
I probably intend to fit victron smart charger.

I can see why people haven’t generally switched to LiFePo for Eribas! Not straightforward.

Thanks.

I should also add, the CSV409 handles charging from towing towing vehicle. With 280 Ah available, I reckon we could probably live without that.

Yes, the key word there is "available". You'd need about five100ah lead acid batteries to give you the equivalent.
Why don't you just get the 409 upgraded?

That is a good option, thanks.
It looks to be at least £180-£190 for an upgrade which is more expensive than a standalone charger and then limits the van to LiFePo batteries in the future.
It is perhaps the neatest solution in wiring terms albeit it sounds like I have to remove it and send it off.

As the day goes by, more thoughts:

I could fit a separate EHU powered charger and a solar panel on the roof. No need for towing power to the 12v battery or fridge then…

(Most expensive option)

Li-Ion and LiFePo batteries required different charging requirements. Upgrading the current CSV409 to Li-Ion is not a recommended solution. Check if the can do an LiFePo upgrade.

Check with Victron Solar Charger is compatible with LiFePo. Most Victron Smart Blue chargers support Li-Ion and LeFePo batteries via the Victron App. You need the check this out so you know how your current solar investment can be maintained.

A simple solution would be to disconnect the mains supply from the CSV409 and ideally pull it's mains fuse. Then connect your LiFePo battery to the battery terminals of the CSV409 and then connect a LeFePo charger directly to the battery.

NOTE! ALSO you would need to disconnect any charging feed from the tow vehicle.

I can't see your current setup etc. so it is difficult to recommend / comment other than to say go back to basics as assume everything is disconnected and then work from their. What are the Inputs?! The CSV409 outputs will basically take care of themselves as these are with the mains disconnected just battery outputs be that Leisure / AGM / Li-Ion or LiFePo.

The crucial point is the battery input / charging and for LeFePo your should have the relevant/correct charger.
