While looking up information on the Isabella Shadow canopy. I came across this one which is new to me
Although it's quoting rail heights between 2100 and 2600 I wonder if the poles will come down down below 1700 in the front?

A bit pricey I know and there are alternatives to give the front of the Isabella Shadow some protection (Inspector_Gadget?).

Looks great Roger, but our experience was that with very little slope, water pooled in the middle and slightly stretched the canvas. Adding a middle pole helps, but this new design will have a flat front edge by design, so doesn’t lend itself to doing that.
Maybe a pole down the right side would allow door clearance, then the canopy could be set lower at the front? I’ve placed grommets down each side to attach side-panels, so I’ll give that idea a whirl next time it’s up.
However, we’ve just taken delivery of a pop air 365 today so we’ll be playing with that first, especially if the weather is as rough as it was on the ALV rally at Kirby Stephen last week.😂😳

I have found raising the ends until they are horizontal and pull the centre down into a V on top of the central pole works best. The door just clears the underside of the canopy, depending on pitch slope, and water does not pool. I've added a pair of end panels to mine on poles from the van to the top of the front poles. This is my van on the Comfortz site:- https://www.comfortzleisure.net/product/...-style-awnings/
I did a review of it here:- Comfortz Leisure Sun Shade Side Panels
You would need two of these:- Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125617354589?...gwAAOSwE5ljdhiv
Two of these:- Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175493611582?...ABk9SR4rZhsjMZQ
A pack of these:- Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172677564757?...ABk9SR5ao_MfMZQ Do not be tempted to buy alternative/cheaper brackets, I did and they were crap.
The cost of the parts does add up, but I just waited for ads on e-bay and picked mine up included with the 3.6m Isabella.

I have got all those bits recommended by Colin - and they are great - we are away at Salisbury this week trying out various combinations. I also bought a short 2’ extension pole for the uprights as an experiment. However, it’s so hot that a nice chair in the shade is far more appealing! 🤣

So here's my new Shadow layout for summer trips - I wanted more height to stop my head brushing the canvas, so I invested in a "proper" 2' pole extension, which allows me to get a bit more height on the centre pole of my 360 Shadow. It also means I can have more pole overlap within the extension part, which is sturdier. I have also invested in 3 x Horizontal Front (or side) Poles (hooks at both ends), plus three Tectums to allow the hooks to join to the upright poles. At the "caravan end" I have 3 x Isabella Fix On mk2s, which are excellent as there's no need for anything being screwed to the caravan awning rail (thanks to Colin for that recommendation). All very sturdy and it holds the fabric roof clear of the door (although the door then doesn't go past the pole...). Further horizontals could be added across the front to take more shade panels.
I have also bought a couple of 75cm Single Profile plastic Awning Profiles, which clip to the larger poles and allow a Keder strip to be fed through. I experimented with using my spare 3m Shadow as a side panel, feeding it into the awning rail at the top of the front windows and then out along the horizontal poles. Not the cheapest way of doing a side panel, but I have identified a better way forward (for me) for side panels that can be installed or removed quickly.
I'm sure there will be more experiments to come. In fact, I have designed and made a prototype for a lightweight catcher and plastic tube to take water away from the centre of the awning when in "inverted V" mode in wet weather. Since I came up with the idea it hasn't rained, so testing still to come! Teaser photo attached...

Simon, nice idea on the water catcher, I'll be watching with interest as I'm not sure if it will cope with the flow rate.

Me neither, Colin, but it won't rain now so I can't test it... When we did our shakedown camp in June it absolutely chucked it down and I stood watching the water pour out of the bottom of the "vee" (with the centre pole dropped) and some of the water followed the guy line, but a lot separated after 30cm or so. I'm just trying to find a way to encourage most of it to go to the foot of the guy line - I will, in fact, be replacing the non-essential guyline from the extra flap (with "Isabella" on it) with a clear, reinforced hose. Experimentation time. It may make it worse!!

Simon. A few years age we built a water gutter out of black plastic (I think) which bulldog clipped onto the orange centre triangle of our 3 metre Shadow and clipped onto the guy rope half way down.
It worked a treat and channeled the immense amount of water coming off the V roof to quite a distance away from the Shadow. It was and always will remain a prototype as I never get around to finishing my projects My main worry was that the water would drown and therefore loosen the guy rope peg so we stopped it a bit short of that.
I'll see if I can dig out some photos.

I remember it well, Roger - it's what got me started on a tube solution - I can angle that away from the securing pegs and peg through the bottom of the tube (I'm using the fibreglass reinforced PVC stuff), which might help with any water logging issues? All in the name of experimentation - and, as I'm unable to work at the moment (waiting for the first of two knee replacements), it keeps me from going mad...

Well, having just bought a Voss Canopy to use as a side screen (it has a keder strip on the top edge that will work with my new layout) I now see an advert on Ebay for a genuine Isabella Side Panel - and it's in Bury St Edmunds, just down the road from me... They are also selling a Shadow 360 and a Front Panel, which I've never seen before. Pictures below...
I have bid for the Side Panel, but can't find the Front Panel they say they have advertised... The 360 they are selling looks to be in very good condition.
I'm about to sell my Shadow 300 - genuinely used a couple of times only. It is converted to three poles and will come with three poles and three Isabella Typhoon guy ropes. I now have a 360, which fits my Troll better - and has a built in cord (unlike the 300) to take the Isabella Fix On MK2 Awning Pole Bracket Tensioning Pads.

Simon, Isabella did have an offer on some years ago where you got the front panel for free. They obviously sold out quickly and never repeated the offer.
Last night I had one of my anorak moments and when I woke up doodled an idea for a water spout for the middle pole.
I think I'll make one to try for when we go away in a month.
I'm having a "moment" and cannot get phone to attach photo.
Get 2L water bottle and cut bottom off.
Make 20 mm hole about 2/3rds up the side towards neck.
Cut a slot into this from base.
Make 20 mm hole about 60 mm up from base, opposite the cut.
Drop this last hole over top of central pole.
Pull canvas on top and hopefully the bottle will fan out.
Poke guy rope up through neck of bottle and over top hole .
Tension guy rope and hope idea works.

That should cope with a big downpour! Mine won't, I fear, but had no rain to test it. When I have a chance I'll post photos of it. I do like the challenge of developing new things. Like my wireless rear camera system, using as many components that I could that I already owned (iPad mini, old iPhone, etc.) that i now have working really well. Eventually I may finish making my twin fan fridge cooler...

Those front panels were impossible to find online, until I found they were called NetFront Panels - very popular in Denmark and Holland, apparently. The use of aluminised net to reflect sunlight away, but let you see through from under the awning, is very clever and, knowing Isabella, will work very well. I'm trying to track one down, but they are like hen's teeth in the UK...
On our recent trip away we were shaded by mature trees until 3pm, but the sun then came out and got in under the awning and was a pain. Dropping the front made the awning too low to move around under, so an angled front strip would be perfect...

Hi Simon
All fascinating stuff, despite me lacking your and Colin's technical imagination (and Randa's)
I have a vague recollection of being able to get one of these net front panels when we bought our Shadow but they were quite a price I think. At the time I was besotted by Randa's bespoke side pieces but Kath discouraged my experiments.
Keep going
