Has anyone used the additional tension arms on a 3.5m Omnistor 6300?

I have some of the tie down straps on the way (cheap enough that it wasn't worth making some out of paracord + black straps marginally less likely to be tripped over (in daylight at least))?

Will be away from the van for extended periods during the day so anything which helps if the weather changes seems like a good idea.
