ALV - Tebay

Spotted this morning on the C&MC forum:-

"Adventure Leisure Vehicles in Tebay, Cumbria had closed their doors as of 10 am today. Although their servicing dept had been busier than ever of late - sales had apparently hit rock bottom, as it has with quite a few other dealers."

Nothing showing on their website:-

Thanks for the information Colin.
If true, sad news for many.

There was an ALV post on Facebook last Friday about two members of staff leaving, a sales person and the stores person. It showed all the staff at a pub having a farewell drink outside and all looked fine, though oddly the business owner was sat to one side and not in with the group.
Then someone posted asking what was up at ALV as they'd phoned to book a service on Monday and been asked to phone back on Thursday when 'they'd know what was happening'.
Then I noticed that the hours of business had altered with the whole place supposedly closed Monday to Wednesday and only open Thursday to Saturday morning.
Was the CMC Forum an official post or somebody putting two and two together and things might not be as they say?

Somebody on the C&MC had received a call about the news from Tebay.

Lots more information on Eribafolk Facebook.now.
It does look.official.
Sorry but can't share it as I'm having difficulty with WiFi.
Perhaps Colin and Andy, you could copy and paste some of the comments on here for the benefit of our non Facebook users?

Apparently UBC in Newcastle have taken on an Eriba dealership, which their website confirms, so there is still some coverage in the north of England but on the east, rather than west side. The irony of United British Caravans handling French and German built caravans raised a wry smile.

https://www.unitedbritishcaravans.co.uk/ came up a while ago when web searching for an Eriba. They have a link to new Eriba's on their website, but no stock. The website by the way is terrible.

On another note, how long does an Eriba dealer last on average. Since 2003 when I bought my first I think we have lost 6, but it could easily be more.

There is a notice in small writing at the bottom of their website home page:

Gareth Harris and Christopher Ratten of RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP were appointed as Joint Administrators of a company on August 20, 2025. They are managing the company's affairs, business, and property as agents without personal liability.

Frightening, note to self not to become an Eriba dealer.
I wonder what the dominant factor is in this scenario. The industry in general or Hymer/Eriba treatment of dealers.

Colin

Edit, didn't we used to have a dealer in Suffolk on the very early 2000's.

None in Suffolk since we bought our first in 2011... nor in Norfolk, or Essex. Our nearest Eriba dealer is Kool Classics on the south coast.

I suggest the reason they are packing up is because Hymer insist they stock the most expensive models that are the hardest to sell... Hence so many having the lifting roof 600 models - and those dealers forced to stock 800s a year or so ago. It's not hard to get a Troll over £40,000 now

As I made the list above I was thinking that there was an East Anglia dealership that closed about 10 years ago but I couldn't remember the name.

It was longer than that Andy. I remember back in 2003 when I bought my first that Lechdale were supplying mostly the GT models, but somebody in Suffolk was/had been selling the white dimpled vans. I cannot recall the name. There must be somebody out there with a badge pop riveted to the van with the dealers name on it.

When ALV talk about a drop in sales we must remember that they deal with several makes and models and also sell campervans.

It makes me wonder if the caravan and smaller campervan industries are losing out to the Motorhome industry?
