The last part of the last para mentions why you should have mirrors - I think this is what the law requires - being able to see exactly what is immediately behind you. The mirrors on my car are such that I can see down the entire length of my van but whats immediately behind me - NO, and its better to have them than argue the toss with the police who will quote the law and not the fact that your car is wider than your van.

This subject seems to come up with increasing frequency!
And it always seems to produce personal opinions or 'I think.....etc type of responses.
There are specific requirements in law requiring distances and angles of vision. It is simply just not good enough to say that 'I can see well enough down the side of my car'.
It is also not very helpful to members new or old to state what your practice is, as if it is OK or legal.
